Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Ghosts season 4, episode 3, “Halloween IV: The Witch”
Although Ghosts season 4’s Halloween episode didn’t reveal Hetty’s powers, the outing did prove that this revelation needs to arrive soon. Ghosts season 4’s cast of characters boast some pretty impressive supernatural powers, as well as some less exciting ones. Alberta’s ability to be heard humming by humans might not get a lot of credit, but it is one of the few powers that can facilitate communication with humans. Similarly, Trevor’s ability to move objects, however minor, has often allowed him to send text messages in times of crisis.

7 Clues & Easter Eggs In Ghosts Season 4's New Opening Video
Ghosts season 4 might have a brief opening title card, but it is full of major hints at the hit sitcom's storylines and plot twists.
That said, Ghosts season 4’s new character Patience pretty much blew all of these powers out of the water. Mary Holland’s pious Puritan was outraged by the suggestion that Sam’s father would be sleeping in the same bed as his girlfriend, and she expressed her anger by making the walls of the Woodstone Mansion bleed human blood. Even Pete’s ability to escape the bounds of the mansion paled in comparison. However, season 4, episode 3, “Halloween IV: The Witch,” ended with Patience returning to her original underground home, and this sets up another character’s long-awaited power reveal.
Ghosts Season 4’s Halloween Episodes Mocked Hetty’s Lack of Powers
Hetty Hoped Her Powers Would Manifest In Time To Save Sam
Now that other characters have mocked her for her lack of perceivable powers and she herself has complained about it, Hetty’s ghost powers must be revealed later in Ghosts season 4. When Patience had seemingly turned Sam into a stone statue since the ghosts declared her guilty of witchcraft, Hetty wondered aloud whether this would be the moment when her hitherto-unseen powers arrived. She and the other ghost waited in hope for a miracle, and nothing happened. It was an embarrassing moment for a character as image-conscious as Hetty, and almost guaranteed that viewers will find out her powers soon.
At first, the arrival of Patience seemed like it would sideline Hetty’s character development. Patience’s Ghosts season 4 role kicked out Nigel, Isaac’s former love interest, and the ferocious powers of Holland’s character seemingly meant she was here to stay. However, in “Halloween IV: The Witch,” all it took was Isaac tricking Patience into watching television to make her flee the mansion, since she viewed it as a corrupting influence. This means that Ghosts season 4 once again has plenty of screen time for Hetty and, since the sitcom has already mentioned her powers, their reveal would be ideally timed.
Patience’s Ghosts Season 4 Exit Makes Hetty’s Powers A Priority
Mary Holland’s Character Was Central To Season 4’s Early Episodes
Patience was pivotal early in Ghosts season 4, but Hetty can get more time in the spotlight now that the Puritan has returned to “The dirt.” Patience’s presence did reshape the season’s first few outings, indirectly forcing Sam to confront her troubled relationship with her father as well as kickstarting Isaac’s Ghosts season 4 redemption arc. “Halloween IV: The Witch” arguably even saw Patience further that arc, as Isaac saved the mansion from Patience by seducing her with the allure of trashy television. Rather than outright betraying Patience, Isaac simply showed her the mansion wasn’t the place for her.
Hetty already became more sympathetic when viewers learned the circumstances of her death.
This means there is no better time for Hetty to take center stage. For too long, the aristocratic lady of the mansion has been utilized as a standout ing character but never the star of the show. Viewers already know, thanks to TVLine, that Sass will receive a long-awaited backstory in season 4. This overdue change is a welcome one, and the reveal of Hetty’s ghost powers would compliment this perfectly. Hetty already became more sympathetic when viewers learned the circumstances of her death, and her powers could give her more agency than ever.
Ghosts Season 4 Should Reveal Hetty’s Powers
The ing Star Deserves More Story Focus
Ghosts season 4 should reveal Hetty’s powers, since there is no easier way to give a character more story focus in the series. Ever since Pete realized he could leave the boundaries of the mansion, his role in the show has expanded to see him regularly Jay on errands both major and minor. Even Alberta’s comparatively minor ability has come in handy, and Trevor’s aforementioned powers have saved Sam and Jay more times than they could count. Hetty could become a pivotal character instead of an underused ing star in Ghosts season 4, but she would need her powers.

Although Ghosts season 4’s Alexander Hamilton appearance proves that Isaac will still be central to the story of the series going forward, that doesn’t mean that Hetty can’t be equally important in outings. Ghosts has already managed the considerable task of balancing the show’s large cast with Sam and Jay’s antics in the world of the living. As such, Ghosts season 4 should be able to prioritize Hetty’s powers going forward.
New episodes of Ghosts air Thursdays at 8:30 on CBS.
