Summary
- Sigourney Weaver's return in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is unconfirmed, but her absence would be strange after Afterlife's revelations about Dana Barrett.

- Afterlife's twist ending revealed Dana and Venkman are married, making it odd for Dana to be excluded in Frozen Empire.
Sigourney Weaver isn’t confirmed to reprise her role as Dana Barrett in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, but her absence from the sequel would be really weird after Afterlife’s revelation about the character. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will see the Spengler family returning to New York City to help the O.G. Ghostbusters fend off another spectral invasion. This time, the ghosts have frozen over the city and are threatening to plunge the world into a second Ice Age, which promises plenty of spooky thrills.
Most of the surviving cast from the original movie are confirmed to reprise their roles in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson are back as Drs. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddemore, respectively. Annie Potts is back as Janine Melnitz and even William Atherton is returning to the role of villainous bureaucrat Walter Peck. It’s unclear if Weaver will be back to reprise her role as Dana, but after Afterlife’s twist ending, it would be weird if she didn’t.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Will Struggle To Beat Afterlife's Greatest Moment
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire looks like a suitably fun-filled Ghostbusters adventure, but it'll struggle to top Afterlife's most emotional scene.
Sigourney Weaver Isn't Yet Confirmed To Appear In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
The producers of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire have yet to confirm whether Weaver will appear in the movie as Dana. It’s possible that Weaver’s involvement is being concealed as a surprise for audiences. Her cameo appearance in the mid-credits scene of Ghostbusters: Afterlife was kept under wraps and it ended up being a pleasant surprise. But, given what was revealed about the character in that mid-credits scene, it would be really strange if Dana didn’t make an appearance in Frozen Empire.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife Revealed Peter Venkman Is Married To Dana Barrett
The mid-credits scene of Ghostbusters: Afterlife returned to New York City to reintroduce Dana. She’s seen playing the classic tarot card game from the original film with Venkman. This time, Venkman is in the hot seat, on the receiving end of the psychic testing, while Dana is the one holding the cards and messing with the test subject. This scene revealed that not only are Dana and Venkman still together all these years later; they’ve gotten married. At some point in the past few decades, Dana managed to get the carefree, curmudgeonly Venkman to settle down and get hitched.
Since Afterlife revealed that Dana is married to Venkman, it would be weird for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire to feature Venkman and not Dana. The sequel could explain away her absence with an overseas business trip or something like that, but that would seem like a cop-out. What would be the point of introducing the characters’ marriage in the last movie if this one isn’t going to explore the relationship at all?
