A new free character giveaway has been leaked for Escoffier to Genshin Impact as playable characters obtainable from banners.

Even with a lot to do in Version 5.6, some attention is already shifting toward the next update. The Version 5.7 beta tests have commenced, and with them, details about the patch are being leaked. A lot of the attention is being directed toward the new characters confirmed for the patch, Skirk and Dahlia. While HoYoverse has revealed their respective elements, the leaks have been responsible for revealing Dahlia’s and Skirk’s gameplay kits in Genshin Impact 5.7, leading to a better understanding of how each of these characters will work in combat and how they will be built.

The Character May Be A Reward For An Event

Even though these two new characters take over the majority of the spotlight when it comes to leaks, especially when considering how anticipated Skirk’s release is following her debut as an NPC back in the Fontaine story arc, the leaks are also revealing other key pieces of information about the patch. According to the leaker known as KazusaLeaks, who has a positive track record of leaking details like the Tatankasaur in Version 5.5 and the bosses from Version 5.3, there will be a free 4-star character giveaway featuring the 4-star Electro unit Sethos in Genshin Impact 5.7.

The leak was shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Sethos in Genshin Impact for free. So far, leaks about the patch’s events have been scarce, but they should emerge soon.

Other Characters Could Have Been Better Options For The Reward

Although the prospect of a free character is always positive, the rumored event featuring Sethos as the reward is somewhat disappointing. The free character selection could have been much better and updated to the game’s current meta standards – or, at least, featured a more recent 4-star character. Currently, Sethos isn’t the best 4-star Electro archer to run. In fact, while their roles don’t directly compete, Ororon is a much better Electro character to have in various team comps thanks to his incredible off-field Electro application and damage potential, especially if players use the best Ororon build in Genshin Impact.

Ororon, however, was given for free in Version 5.5 as a reward for the Tournament of Glory event. Even so, among 4-star Electro bow characters, HoYoverse has already covered the terrain. I’d expect the new free character giveaway to feature a character that would work in the current Cryo-Freeze meta, perhaps as a way to incentivize pulls for Skirk during the patch. Even though she has already been given for free, a new free Candace distribution would work well, especially because she can enhance Elemental Normal Attacks, which is exactly what Skirk in Genshin Impact is rumored to do.

The leaks about Skirk also say she benefits from triggering Frozen reactions and having Hydro characters in the team, which would make Candace a decent F2P (free-to-play) unit for her.

A free character giveaway featuring Charlotte, Layla, or perhaps even Xingqiu could also work as a means of establishing a connection with Skirk. Alternatively, ignoring Skirk’s release in Version 5.7, HoYoverse could have opted for a more recent 4-star character release or even an older character who was never distributed for free. A free Iansan giveaway in Version 5.7 would make perfect sense, considering her recent release in Version 5.5, for example. It would give players a better chance to test Iansan’s team comps in Genshin Impact beyond the trial tests.

On the other end of the spectrum, older characters like Kaveh have never been given to players for free. Kaveh, a Sumeru character like Sethos, was released before the Electro archer, but players have never had the chance to obtain him without having to rely on pulling from banners. Granted, Kaveh is arguably the worst Dendro character to date, but the possibility of at least including him in the roster for free would be great, as that would open up a whole new avenue of team comp possibilities in Genshin Impact.

Sethos Is Still A Solid 4-Star Electro DPS In Genshin Impact

The Sumeru Character Can Take Advantage Of Powerful Elemental Reactions

While I believe that there could have been better free character giveaway options for HoYoverse to choose from in the speculated Version 5.7 event, if the leaks are true, having Sethos as the reward is not entirely bad, per se. In fact, Sethos is a fairly solid 4-star Electro DPS option to use in some team comps. The character from Sumeru can deal a lot of damage to enemies with his unique Shadowpiercing Shots and has great mobility that can help him avoid incoming attacks. Most importantly, however, Sethos’ best build in Genshin Impact sees him scaling on Elemental Mastery.

With a high Elemental Mastery score, Sethos can take advantage of several powerful Elemental Reactions in the game, making him work particularly well in Aggravate and Hyperbloom parties – provided that he is aided by proper sub-DPS and units, like Nahida, which can guarantee an almost-permanent Dendro application on enemies with her Skill’s short cooldown time. In the F2P realm, Sethos can also work well with the Dendro Traveler and even Collei. Sethos can even work in Overloaded teams with the aid of Chevreuse, for example, who can inflict Electro and Pyro RES shred on enemies in Genshin Impact.

For now, the leaks about Sethos’ free giveaway in Version 5.7 should be taken with a grain of salt, as they could be incorrect or subject to change or postponements. Even so, it would not be too surprising if HoYoverse decided to offer the 4-star Electro archer from Sumeru as a reward for an event, especially if the event takes place in the Nation of Wisdom. More details should arise as Genshin Impact progresses further into Version 5.6 and the next patch’s leaks continue to emerge.
