Over five years since the release of the last mainline Gears of War game, release dates for the next game in the series, E-Day, and a Gears of War collection have apparently been leaked. Since the release of Gears 5 in 2019, the series has yet to see another mainline installment. Instead, it turned to spinoffs like Gears Tactics in 2020 and the now-discontinued mobile game Gears Pop! A prequel to the series, Gears of War: E-Day, was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2024, but no release date has been officially set.

As reported by GameSpot, leaker eXtas1s on YouTube has claimed that a currently unannounced Gears of War collection will be revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in 2025 and released within the year on Xbox, PC, and PS5. At the same time, however, eXtas1s has also claimed that although there's a slight chance that Gears of War: E-Day might make it out in 2025 as well, it's more likely that the game won't be released until 2026.

Gears Of War E-Day Could Be Getting A Release Date, Leaks Claim

Leaked E-Day Release Date Set For 2026, With A Slight Chance Of Being Pushed Up To 2025

Outside of E-Day's initial reveal trailer, which showed the game to be a prequel starring original series protagonists Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, very little information has been revealed about E-Day itself. While it's been announced that the game will be bringing back the original Gears of War voice actors for its protagonists, no gameplay footage of E-Day has been shown. In all likelihood, if the leaks from eXtas1s are accurate, more information about E-Day, including an official release date reveal, could be revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase later in 2025.

Gears of War: E-Day was revealed during the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, showing the major Locust attack that changed the world forever.

Notably, as pointed out by GameSpot, eXtas1s had previously, and correctly, leaked that Forza 5 would be ported to the PS5, meaning that his leaks have some degree of validity behind them. However, not all of his leaks are quite as accurate - despite reporting that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 would be revealed at the Xbox Game Showcase in 2025 and released in June, the game has already been revealed on the official Tony Hawk's Pro Skater website after a lengthy countdown, and is set for release on July 11.

While E-Day was only unveiled last year, rumors regarding the potential release of a remastered Gears of War collection have been around for far longer - to the point that a Gears collection was expected to launch in 2022. The existence or development status of a Gears of War collection has never been officially confirmed, though, and it remains to be seen whether the leak from eXtas1s will prove to be accurate.

Gears Of War: E-Day Needs To Copy Gears Tactics’ Best Idea

Gears of War: E-Day is expected to be a third-person shooter, but it should adopt a feature introduced by the series’ tactical strategy spin-off.

In all likelihood, a Gears collection would package the original trilogy together (though the original Gears of War already has the remastered Ultimate Edition), with a chance to include the spinoff game Judgement. Gears of War 4 and Gears 5, being already available on modern platforms, would likely not be included. With such an extended wait since Gears 5, fans of the series hopefully have a lot to look forward to, but leaks can prove unreliable for several reasons, so it might be best not to get too hyped about Gears of War news.
