The Gamescom 2020 Opening Night Live showcase revealed several new trailers and demos for video games, including some PlayStation 5 exclusives. New Gamescom Opening Night Live footage included games like Star Wars: Squadrons, Destiny 2, Fall Guys Season 2, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Prior to Gamescom 2020, host Geoff Keighley announced the show would contain more than 35 games over two hours of livestreaming. This would include new looks at next-gen games, as well as updates to currently available games like Doom Eternal and Destiny 2. With E3 2020 cancelled and replaced by a number of individual game announcement events, Gamescom's showcase served as the last remains of a summer game news schedule interrupted by the novel coronavirus pandemic.
In the pre-show, Keighley explained the 2020 Opening Night Live would consist mostly of news about already announced games, barring a few brand new announcements and surprises. With these expectations set, the showcased began with a scene from the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign, including new information about the game's emphasis on player choice in its single-player story. Read on for more of the announcements and reveals from the show.
