Game of Thrones is a show full of shocking plot twists and many, many revelations. Fans are bound to miss some of them. Including revelations to do with the relationship between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Whether it's the fact that Jon liked Daenerys from the beginning, or that both of them are candidates for fulfilling the Azor Ahai prophecy, fans missed certain things about these iconic characters.
Luckily, we are here to help fans see what they've missed. Including information from both the books and the show, we will go through all of what we've found that fans have missed about this power couple. They have many things in common, as well as many parallels. Their romance is foreshadowed in the books. They might get married in both the books and the show. All of these facts are quite interesting, yet it's not surprising that fans missed them.
In a show with so many characters and plot lines like Game of Thrones, fans are bound to miss some things. It's hard to keep track. Yet it's important to try to do so. After all, everyone wants to figure out the ending. And the best way to do that is to everything you can about the beginning and the middle of the story. Now we're not promising anything. After all, Game of Thrones is known for its plot twists. Many of them, fans would never have been able to figure out. Yet some of them, like Jon's true parentage were figured out by fans ages ago. So perhaps this article will spark a fan theory or two.
Jon Liked Daenerys From The Beginning
That's right, it was like at first sight for Jon Snow. He found Daenerys attractive, describing her in his thoughts in the script as "cute as a bug." Now we're not sure exactly how cute that is. Probably depends on the bug. But it's nice to know that Jon, from the beginning, could see beneath Daenerys' intimidating exterior and realize how cute and sweet she can be. Fans likely wouldn't have imagined that these were Jon's thoughts upon meeting Daenerys. Luckily, the scripts have confirmed it for us.
Daenerys, However, Is Not So Impressed With Jon At Their First Meeting
Her thoughts in the script of their first meeting are a lot less complimentary. She's thinking only that Jon might not be as stupid as he looks. Ouch. Well, she came around in the end. And now she truly respects and likes the King in the North. At least, for now. You never know what's going to happen on Game of Thrones. Yet we think that Jon and Daenerys will remain at least allies in the show. At least, we hope they will. It would be a shame for such a powerful team up to end.
Daenerys Is Able To Break Down In Front Of Jon, In A Way That She Rarely Allows Herself To
After losing her beloved dragon Viserion to the Night King, Daenerys is understandably very upset. The script says it best: "She opens her mouth to speak but only tears come - - the tears she has held at bay until now, because people were watching, and she still had hope. Here with Jon and only Jon, she lets go of hope and poise, and weeps.” This shows how comfortable she is with Jon. Unlike with others, she feels like she can truly let go and be fully herself. She can show all of her feelings, instead of keeping them in. She can drop her guard and let the wall she's built around herself fall down. And that's a beautiful thing.
Jon Realizes He Loves Her After Witnessing Her Breaking Down
Again, the script says it best. "Jon has truly never seen a girl like this before. Her beauty, her strength, her grief and the pain it makes him feel . . . they all push him to the realization that he loves her.” And you can't blame Jon. Daenerys is strong and beautiful and even more. Falling for her makes sense. Yet poor Jon doesn't know what he's getting into. Neither does Daenerys really. But more on that later. For now, all you need to know is that Jon loves Daenerys and Daenerys loves Jon. And that, as always on Game of Thrones, things are more complicated than that.
Jon May Have Some Competition For Her Affections In The Form Of Tyrion
Yes, that's right. Tyrion has feelings for the Mother of Dragons. No wonder he was watching creepily as Jon entered her room during season seven. Although knowing Tyrion— and the writers— that might not be the only reason. He might also be worried about the political implications that Jon and Daenerys' relationship could have. After all, if things went badly that would be the end of their alliance. And that wouldn't be good for either party. Luckily for Jon, Daenerys remains blissfully unaware of Tyrion's feelings. And Tyrion himself probably isn't the type to tell her.
Both Of Them Are Candidates For Fulfilling The Azor Ahai Prophecy
The Azor Ahai prophecy is one that many fans have theorized about. There are many candidates for fulfilling the prophecy, but two of the most convincing ones are Jon and Daenerys. Let's go over the prophecy. Azor Ahai is meant to be (re)born amidst salt and smoke, a bleeding star will signal their coming, they will wield a fiery weapon, the creation of said weapon will require the sacrifice of a loved one, they will wake dragons from stone, and they will be born of the bloodline of Aerys and Rhaella Targaryen. Both of these characters could fit into this prophecy. And it's important to that. Who knows? It could be important in season eight.
...Or The Two Of Them Together Are Azor Ahai
Melisandre implied on the show that both Daenerys and Jon have a part to play in the coming war against the Night King and his army. So what if both of them together make up Azor Ahai? That would be a twist no one would be expecting, and Game of Thrones is known for that. Also, Jon could represent ice while Daenerys represents fire, making their relationship the "song of ice and fire" referred to in the title of the books. They are also both from the line of Aerys and Rhaella Targaryen. So therefore, both of them at the same time could fit the prophecy. We hope that doesn't mean they'll both be eliminated by the Night King. That would be sad, even for Game of Thrones.
The Revelation Of Jon's Parentage Will Be Difficult For Both Of Them
We've talked about this before. According to Kit Harington, "finding out about Dany would be very hard" for Jon. He's noble to a fault and doesn't lie. In fact, according to Harington, he can't lie. So he wouldn't be able to keep the truth from anyone, including Daenerys. But Jon is not the only one who would find this difficult. According to Emilia Clarke, Daenerys "truly loves Jon. Were she to find out about his title, it would cut deep.” Not only because their relation would put an end to their romance, but because Jon would then be ahead of her in of who gets the Iron Throne. That's got to be tough for Daenerys who has been working for years to return to Westeros and claim the throne for her family again.
They Have Many Parallels In The Books
Both of their mothers ed away in childbirth. Both were snuck away to a location different from where they were born in order to save them. Daenerys and Jon are both described as highly observant. These are just a few of the parallels that these characters have. It is interesting to know that they have so many parallels, especially in the books. Though many of these definitely apply to the show as well.
For example, both Jon and Daenerys find their animal companions near the beginning of their arcs. Both of them embark on adventures at the beginning of their story. Jon goes north to the Wall, while Daenerys goes east to the Dothraki Sea. It almost seems that the two characters are going on a kind of parallel journey, naturally leading them to each other. But we could be wrong. George R.R. Martin is known for his plot twists, after all.
Their Romance Is Foreshadowed In The Books
While Daenerys is at The House of the Undying, she hears many prophecies. But in the books, the prophecies are slightly different than they are in the show. For example, after hearing one prophecy, she sees a blue flower in a wall of ice. This flower is associated with Jon's mother, Lyanna Stark, and therefore could be symbolizing Jon himself. She describes the flower as "filling the air with sweetness." From Jon's side, he meets a young woman named Val, whose hair is turned a pale silver— just like Daenerys'— by the light of the moon. Jon describes the air around her as "sweet" as well. Interesting.
