More details are emerging about the in the works at Amazon. The idea of a follow-up to the cult classic 1999 film has been percolating for decades, essentially ever since the original movie was released. While it no longer seems like the proposed television series is going to happen, it's still interesting to learn more about what the show would've been, building hope for reviving the reboot in the process.

The 1999 science fiction comedy served as a worthy parody to set to write the script for the television spinoff.

Director Dean Parisot is providing more details about what would've been. Speaking with Collider to promote Bill & Ted Face the Music, Parisot dove into both the structure of the story and some of the plot details that would've been used to launch the show. In of the former, Parisot described Galaxy Quest as a series that would've spanned ten episodes, while feeling like "one long movie." He also described those ten episodes as being split into three distinct parts.

More interestingly, Parisot also got into some of the plot details of the potential Galaxy Quest spinoff. The story would've jumped forward 15-20 years, just as time has in the real world. It would've picked up with Jason (Allen) getting into a fight at Comic Con after learning his series was being rebooted, but with a younger set of actors. Considering how popular reboots are right now - and the meta element of a Galaxy Quest reboot being about a reboot within the world of the program - it sounds like it would be the perfect jumping off point for the spinoff.

Sadly, it's been years since there has been any public movement on bringing the next iteration of Galaxy Quest to the screen. Last year's documentary, Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary, brought renewed interest to the franchise, but Parisot did refer to the television series in the past tense (although he refused to entirely close the door on the program). These details simply whet the desire for a continuation of Galaxy Quest to come soon.
