Charlie Brown and the the hapless star of the Peanuts franchise himself, Charlie Brown. Indeed, their adventures (and oftentimes misadventures) are truly legendary, as every member of the Peanuts Gang is recognized and beloved by people all around the world. Well, almost every member.
There are a few Peanuts’ Charlotte Braun (who was actually killed off) to Snoopy’s original owner, Lila, there are a number of characters that simply haven’t stood the test of time. And the same is true for another one of Charlie Brown’s forgotten friends: Eudora. However, that doesn’t mean the Peanuts comics featuring this character aren’t worth reading. Here are the 15 funniest Peanuts comics starring Eudora!
15 Eudora’s First Appearance in Peanuts
Peanuts Introduced Eudora Riding the Bus to Summer Camp with Sally
Charlie Brown's little sister, Sally, is on a bus headed to summer camp, and she's sitting right next to an all-new character introduced in this very Peanuts comic strip: Eudora. While Sally is a bit more 'girly-girl', it's clear from the start that Eudora was more of a classic 'tomboy'. Eudora tells Sally that she's never been to camp before, and Sally tells her that she's going to have a great time, to which Eudora responds, "You're lying, aren't you?". And that is Sally's - and the world's - introduction to Eudora.
14 Peanuts’ Eudora & Sally at Summer Camp
Eudora has More in Common with Snoopy than Sally
When the two finally get to camp, Sally and Eudora are stuck sleeping outside in nothing more than their sleeping bags. Sally explains that their lack of a cabin is called "roughing it", but Eudora has already had enough. Eudora wants pizza and marshmallow sundaes, not this camping experience. Sally calls Eudora weird, saying that she has to be the only person in the world who would be thinking of those things at a time like this. But, at that moment, Snoopy pops his head up, proving that he and Eudora are on the same page.
13 Peanuts’ Eudora & Sally are Summer Camp Besties
Sally Calls Eudora to See if She’s Going Back to Summer Camp
Unsure if Eudora will be going back to the same summer camp where they first met, Sally decides to call her on the phone to confirm that she will, in fact, be returning. When Sally asks, Eudora says that she's unsure, as she doesn't know if her parents will have the stomach to chain her up and force her back to that place. In other words, Eudora doesn't have a say in the matter, and if her parents want her to go back to camp, then she's going - and Sally picked up on that from her 'camp bestie' immediately.
12 Eudora’s Connection with Trees
Peanuts Establishes that Eudora has a Connection with Sentient Trees
While hanging out together at camp one summer, Sally complains to Eudora about their assignment to go out into nature and learn more about trees. Sally doesn't understand why they have to waste time learning about trees, saying that she doesn't care about them in the slightest. Eudora warns Sally not to say anything bad about trees, especially right next to one. When Sally asks why, a branch falls right on top of her head. Peanuts is filled with sentient trees (see the Kite Eating Tree), and it seems Eudora has a special connection with them.
11 Eudora’s Summer Camp Anxiety
Peanuts’ Eudora is Stressed About Going to Camp for the Weirdest Reason
Eudora and Sally have been going to the same summer camp together for a few years, and every year (including that very first trip), Eudora has made it clear that she hates it. And now, during this particular trip, Eudora finally tells Sally why. While Eudora is complaining to Sally about being forced to go to camp, she its that she's anxious about getting eaten by an antelope. Obviously, anyone who knows what an antelope is knows how unfounded this fear is, but - weird or not - the anxiety of being eaten by one is why Eudora hates going to camp.
10 Eudora Transfers to Sally’s School
Eudora Becomes an Official Member of the Peanuts Gang
Up until this point, Eudora was only a temporary member of the Peanuts Gang, as readers only saw her when Sally went off to camp. But now, Eudora's family has moved to town, and she's been transferred to Sally's school (where the rest of the Peanuts Gang go to school as well). In this comic, Eudora introduces herself to her new class, and in doing so, re-introduces herself to Peanuts fans as an official member of the Peanuts Gang.
9 Eudora’s First Real Introduction to Linus
Peanuts’ Lucy Shows Eudora Just How Strange Her Brother Is
Upon moving to town, it doesn't take long for Eudora to befriend the rest of the Peanuts Gang beyond just Sally. After becoming friends with Lucy, Eudora is then introduced to Linus - and during the perfect time of the year, too. Lucy brings Eudora to Linus' pumpkin patch around Halloween, where Linus is waiting for The Great Pumpkin - indeed, there is no better introduction to Linus than this.
It would later be revealed in Peanuts that Eudora has a crush on Linus, so it seems she wasn't scared away by this bizarre first impression.
8 Eudora Meets Peppermint Patty
Peppermint Patty is the Worst Member of the Peanuts Gang to Get School Advice From
When Peppermint Patty is effectively held back a year because of her inattentiveness in school, she ends up in the same class as Eudora - in fact, at the desk right in front of her. Since Patty had already done this grade, she tells Eudora that if she has any questions about anything, to just ask her. Better than that, Peppermint Patty becomes something of a mentor to Eudora, as the younger new-kid decides to just do whatever Patty does. Unfortunately, all Peppermint Patty does in class is sleep, so that's what Eudora does too.
7 Peppermint Patty Helps Eudora Cheat
Peppermint Patty Continues to be a Bad Influence on Eudora in Peanuts
Of course, when Peppermint Patty isn't sleeping in class, she's doing whatever she can to avoid doing work while still finding a way to - and she's ing that along to Eudora. Again, this is Patty's second time in this grade, and she re most of the answers for tests and quizzes, including one in particular. Patty tells Eudora the answer to that particular question, helping her cheat on an assignment and continuing to be a bad influence on Eudora.
6 Eudora Breaks Her Summer Camp Bond with Sally
Eudora & Sally Became Friends in Peanuts Through Summer Camp, & Eudora Breaks That Bond
After Eudora moved to Sally's town, it seemed as though it was up in the air whether they'd still go to summer camp together. Sally asks Eudora if she's made a decision about whether to go (as it seems her parents are letting her decide this year), and Eudora basically tells Sally that she would much rather stay home - and even Sally its that's what Eudora should do. This is a sad moment, as it breaks the bonds of friendship Sally and Eudora first formed at summer camp, even if they do live in the same town now.
