Usually, when considering ‘bathroom humor’, one usually thinks of dirty jokes. But, in The Far Side, ‘bathroom humor’ literally takes place in the bathroom. Even bathroom humor is done through a lens of absurdity in The Far Side, proving that the comic strip always stays true to its mission of utter ridiculousness - while also being incredibly clever. An Innocent Bathroom Mistake Involving a Mummy’s Wrap Invokes His Wrath in The Far Side

A man is using a bathroom stall right next to a mummy in a public restroom, and when he grabbed toilet paper to wipe after using the toilet, he accidentally grabbed a piece of the mummy's wrap. This poor soul accidentally wiped his excrement on this mummy's wrap, and since mummies are only alive because of ancient curses, that means this guy is definitely going to get killed by this undead monster.

Accident or not, this was a crime too severe for the mummy to ignore, as this innocent (albeit disgusting) bathroom mistake involving a mummy's wrap has invoked the mummy's wrath in The Far Side.

A fish is taking a bubble bath in their bathroom, enjoying the soothing water just as any human would in their place. The fish is also enjoying the bathroom wall decor all around them during their bath, as there are images of humans all over the walls. This comic is a hilarious twist on common bathroom decor, as humans (not fish) are normally the ones taking a bubble bath in a bathroom, and images of fish (not humans) are usually covering the walls.

From the perspective of the fish, this isn't really that weird, since people do this with pictures of fish all the time. But, for Far Side readers, this scene is utterly bizarre in a way that only the Far Side can deliver.

10 Didn’t Wash Hands

A man is walking out of the men's bathroom at a restaurant, and as he's doing so, a loud alarm goes off with a flashing sign that reads "Didn't Wash Hands". Evidently, this man did not wash his hands upon leaving the bathroom, which is especially gross considering that he's in a restaurant. Good thing this Far Side restaurant took the proper steps to find a solution to this common bathroom problem, as many people are guilty of neglecting to wash their hands after they're done using the bathroom.

Obviously, the idea that a siren would go off if someone didn't wash their hands is absurd, and is something that could only happen in The Far Side.

9 Chicken vs Mirror

Chickens Shouldn’t Have Access to Bathroom Mirrors in The Far Side

A chicken is going completely crazy behind the closed door of his home bathroom, and his parents are witnessing it from the living room. One of them says, "Murray's attacking the bathroom mirror!", which is something they could only have known if this was a recurring problem for Murray - and, perhaps, for all chickens. Some chickens have been known to attack their own reflections (though they mostly don't in real life), and it seems Murray is one of those aggressive few.

It's safe to say that chickens maybe just shouldn't have bathroom mirrors, especially if getting confused and attacking them is something that often happens - as this Far Side comic suggests.

8 Psycho III

The Iconic Bathroom Death Scene in Psycho is Taken Up a Few Notches in The Far Side

A woman is taking a shower, when suddenly, a tank rolls into the bathroom and takes aim right at her. Clearly, the tank is there to kill her, which is a conclusion that becomes even more obvious upon taking a look at this Far Side comic's caption, which reads, "Psycho III". This scene is reminiscent of a scene from the original Alfred Hitchcock film, Psycho, when Norman Bates stabs a woman in the shower. Now, in 'Psycho III', the stakes have never been higher, as this woman isn't getting attacked by a mere knife, but a literal tank.

This Far Side comic is a hilarious play on how sequels always try to up the ante of the original, which is why this woman is getting attacked by a tank instead of a knife, as the third film in any given franchise must take things to the next level.

7 Caveman Plumber

A neanderthal couple has called a caveman plumber to come to their cave and check out an issue they are having with their 'toilet' (which is just a hole in the ground next to a roll of toilet paper). The caveman plumber takes one look into the hole and says, "Ooooo... This not be cheap". It seems the problem the couple is having with their 'toilet' is one that is going to cost them a lot of money, proving that even at the dawn of human existence, being a plumber is always lucrative.

Plumbing issues are infamously expensive, and having working plumbing is absolutely necessary for any home or establishment, which makes plumbers especially essential. And, in The Far Side, that's always been the case.

6 Trojan Horse

The Far Side Presents a Hilarious Problem with the Trojan Horse

After Troy received the giant "Trojan Horse", which was sent to them by the Greeks as a way to breach Troy's impenetrable walls, the Greek Soldiers that were hiding inside it were faced with a problem that no one foresaw - or, at least one of them was. A Greek Soldier named Cornelius evidently had to go to the bathroom while waiting for nightfall inside the Trojan Horse, and his commander had to tell him to hold it.

It's unclear if Cornelius was able to hold it, or if the Greek Soldiers inside the Trojan Horse had to suffer the stench of either urine or feces while awaiting their attack, but the thought alone is utterly hilarious, and could only happen in The Far Side.

5 Bathroom Deer

A Clever Deer Escapes a Dedicated Hunter in a Bathroom in The Far Side

A hunter is standing inside a public bathroom right outside a row of stalls, as he has tracked a deer into this bathroom, and is waiting to see if the deer is actually in one of those stalls. But, after waiting for some time and hearing only the normal sounds of a public bathroom, the hunter slowly starts to think that he unfortunately made a mistake, and that the deer wasn't actually in the bathroom.

Of course, readers can clearly see deer hooves underneath one of the stalls, meaning this deer was just too clever for the hunter - which is as utterly absurd as it is absolutely hilarious.

4 Cat Showers

Cats Have the Weirdest Showers in The Far Side

A cat is standing in the shower in their house, but this shower isn't like the ones humans use, as this one is just a giant tongue coming out of the wall, licking the cat clean. Humans use water that falls from a shower head when they want to take a shower, but cats clean themselves with their tongues. Therefore, if a cat was going to design a shower, then this is logically how they would do it. Unfortunately, this is also a repugnant sight that won't soon leave the mind of the reader after they've seen it.

A giant tongue jutting out from the wall, licking a cat clean? Gross. But, more than that: absolutely absurd - which makes this comic perfectly on-brand for The Far Side.

1 Musician Picked the Perfect Spot for Tuba Practice in The Far Side

A kid is practicing the tuba behind a public bathroom, with a crowd of people in the background looking at the rest area in horror, as they think the sounds coming from the boy's tuba are being made by someone using the bathroom. If this kid chose this spot to practice the tuba in order to deliberately make people think someone was having an absurdly loud bowel movement inside the restroom, then he's a genius. If not, then fate truly is hilarious, especially in the absurd world presented in The Far Side.

Not only that, but one of the funniest parts of this Far Side comic is that this boy clearly isn't very good at the tuba, as his playing is being mistaken for loud bowel movements.
