Joey Gladstone (Dave Coulier) is a staple on the cheesy and lovable sitcom Full House. Without his weird voices and the love that he has for Danny Tanner's (Bob Saget) children, the show wouldn't feel the same. Viewers are used to seeing everyone under the same roof, living in the charming Tanner house in San Francisco, the one made famous thanks to the opening credits that fans have seen time and time again.
The Full House characters may all live in the same place but does that really mean that Uncle Joey should be there, too? There are actually a lot of negative things about Joey rooming with the rest of the Tanner clan.
He's Too Immature
Part of the fun of watching Full House is how silly and corny all of the characters can be, but that doesn't mean that it makes sense that Joey lives in the house with everyone else.
Many jokes don't hold up and Joey is definitely a very immature person. It becomes a little old for him to constantly be using different voices other than his real one and not take anything seriously.
He's Not Actually A Great Influence
There are some sad, heartwarming moments on the show, but most of all, Full House is a sitcom about the lessons of growing up. And despite his good intentions, Joey isn't actually a good influence.
He doesn't seem as much of as an adult as Danny is, or even Jesse (John Stamos), and that becomes more obvious with every episode. If he's supposed to be shaping the minds of the young kids living in the Tanner household, why is it okay that he acts so young?
A Grown Man Shouldn't Live In A Basement
While many people rent out their basement to a tenant, that usually means that they've put some money into creating a beautiful and enviable apartment that is as nice as anything that would be above-ground.
When Joey lives in the basement of the Tanner house, it's not like there's some big amazing renovation. He's simply living in the basement. This doesn't seem like the right place for a grown man.
He And Jesse Don't Get Along At First
Uncle Jesse is a beloved Full House character so it's pretty crazy that he and Joey don't get along at first. Sure, they get over it and become pals, but is this really a great environment for the kids to be in?
If Danny is going to have two friends live in his house with him, he should make sure that they're not going to fight or cause any conflict or tension. The situation is already tough enough.
It's Hard For Him To Find Real Work
Joey is someone who struggles to find real work for a period of time. He and Jesse get into advertising, but before that, he doesn't really seem to have a regular paycheck.
Sure, not everyone is going to love the 9-to-5 life, but Joey should try harder to make some money. It doesn't seem like he should live in the house with everyone if he doesn't have anything to contribute financially, as Danny has a great career and is raising three kids without his late wife.
He's Living In The Tanner House To Avoid Real Life
It's fair to say that the reason why Uncle Joey lives in the Tanner house isn't to help Danny with the girls. Sure, it starts out that way, but if that's the case, then why doesn't he ever leave?
It would be a lot better for Joey's personal development if he would have moved out and started his real life. It would have been a nice example for everyone.
He Casually Dates
characters going on dates and Joey's never seem like they'll lead to anything serious.
This is another reason why Joey shouldn't live in the Tanner house. It doesn't seem like he can sustain a proper, healthy relationship (at least not until the Fuller House revival) and that's not good for the kids to see. Jesse, at least, falls in love and marries Becky (Lori Loughlin).
It Would Be Funnier If He Randomly Dropped By
Full House isn't perfect but it's definitely a funny show. If Joey didn't live in the house, that would make the show better since he could pop in randomly.
This would make for a lot of hilarious moments since he could come by at the worst times possible.
The Girls Would Escape To His Place If He Moved Out
It's also true that if Joey moved out of the Tanner house and had his own apartment or house, it would offer up even more opportunities for teachable moments. And that's the point of Full House, right?
If he lived somewhere else, then DJ (Candace Cameron) and Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) could run away from home at various times and try to live at Joey's. This would create drama and it would add another layer to the show that would be pretty entertaining.
It's Too Chaotic
Another reason why Joey should never have lived in the Tanner house is that it's simply too chaotic.
There are just way too many people of varying ages in this one home. It's not like it's a mansion, after all. It doesn't feel like there's enough room for Joey, and the kids don't need to grow up with so much chaos when they already lost their beloved mom.
