Warning: There are From season 3, episode 5 spoilers ahead. From's savage monsters, as well as a police officer, Acosta (Samantha Brown), who accidentally killed Nicky (Tamara Fifield), one of the residents at Colony House.

In episode 5, From's cast of characters holds a meeting to learn about how Tabitha escaped the Town, what she did after she left, and how she returned. The largely negative reception to Tabitha's answers creates even more problems as the denizens of the Town continue to be pushed toward their breaking point. In typical From fashion, many important developments occur, but many new questions are also raised, as the stakes continue to become more dire for the characters.

8 Dale Suffers A Brutal Fate After Going Through The Faraway Bottle Tree

It Doesn't Work Out The Way He Hoped

After hearing Tabitha's story, Dale (Cliff Saunders) tries to replicate her escape from the town by going into the same faraway tree with the bottles hanging from it. As Victor (Scott McCord) told Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster) in season 1, faraway trees are unpredictable and rarely send a person or object to the same place twice. Dale learns this the hard way as he is not transported to the lighthouse as Tabitha was and instead ends up encased in the side of the Town's motel pool.

Cliff Saunders is married to Elizabeth Saunders, who plays Donna Raines in From.

Dale dies before Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) is able to give him a more merciful death. What happens to Dale is consistent with the unpredictable nature of the faraway trees and proves that the way Tabitha escaped cannot be simply repeated. It also proves Boyd's point that rushing to the faraway tree was a foolish idea. For now, no one will be escaping the Town again, and they are stuck dealing with the monsters and even more nefarious threats.

7 The Townspeople Are Disappointed Tabitha Didn't Do More

They Are Quick To Blame Her

Dale's rash and ultimately deadly decision to go through the faraway tree was sparked by the residents' widespread disappointment that Tabitha did not do more to find help when she was in Camden, Maine. She tries to explain that no one would have believed her, and Henry s this by saying he did not even believe her at first, and he was only convinced due to the unique circumstances regarding his family's long-ago disappearance. Nevertheless, many of the other characters, particularly Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori), are devastated by the lack of results.

In From season 3, episode 3, "Mouse Trap," Tabitha and Henry discover another shared connection when Joni Mitchell's "Blue" comes on in the car.

1

In Fatima's case, she directs her anger at Tabitha, emphasizing that this might have been their only chance to escape and find help, and now it is wasted. In reality, Fatima's reaction is not really about her anger at Tabitha as much as it is about her pregnancy and the alarming cravings she has been having in From's most disturbing storyline. Boyd is one of the few who does not give in to despair and instead tries to use Tabitha's experience as proof that escape is possible, but even he can do little to quell the hopelessness setting in.

6 Ellis Learns About What Fatima Has Been Eating

Her Diet Is No Longer A Secret

After the town meeting, an upset Fatima goes to eat some rotten crops. The problem is that Ellis (Corteon Moore) follows Fatima to try and console her and express his , only for her to assert that there is nothing that he can do to help. This leads to Fatima tearfully revealing that she is eating rotten crops and that she thinks there is something wrong with the baby. The rest of the conversation is not shown, but she will presumably share about consuming Nicky's blood as well.

Fatima will not be as alone in her struggle now that Ellis is aware of what has been happening, but it does not fix the problem. Ellis trusts Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot) and her medical expertise, which has saved him and many of From's best characters from death and painful suffering. What is happening to Fatima goes beyond Kristi's expertise, though, and is part of the Town tormenting and targeting Fatima and Ellis in a way that hurts them the most.

5 Victor And Henry Reunite

Both Characters Really Needed This

While episode 5 is mostly bleak, one of the few bright spots is seeing Victor reunite with his father for the first time in decades. Victor spends most of the episode avoiding this reunion as he fears how his father will look at him after all this time. When they eventually cross paths in the Town, Victor learns that he has nothing to worry about as he and his father embrace and have a heartwarming reunion after decades of believing they would never see each other again.

Seeing the reunion actually happen is immensely satisfying and is much-needed for both of these long-suffering characters.

Since Henry was revealed to be Victor's father in From season 3, episode 1, the series has been building toward this reunion. Seeing the reunion actually happen is immensely satisfying and is much-needed for both of these long-suffering characters. Given the deceitful and manipulative nature of the Town, it is still difficult to trust Henry entirely, even with how kind and generous he has been, but the reunion with Victor makes it hard to argue that Henry is not who he says he is.

4 Julie And Elgin Bond And Find A Camera

They Are Able To Briefly Be Normal Teenagers Again

Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) chooses not to attend the town meeting at the diner and instead goes to Colony House to take some of Fatima's marijuana for herself. She runs into Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons), who also chooses to stay behind at Colony House. They both smoke marijuana and enjoy some much-needed camaraderie with people their own age. They find some old clothes and try them on, but arguably the most exciting part of Julie and Elgin's time spent together is the discovery of a polaroid camera.

From season 3's premiere has people wondering who the ghost lady that Elgin sees and what her presence means for the show's larger narrative.

They enjoy fooling around with the camera and taking pictures of each other. While this discovery is harmless for now, it will likely be important in future episodes, with the camera possibly picking up details hidden from the human eye. This episode ends on a happy note for Elgin and Julie, but unfortunately, the Town never lets anyone remain happy for long. A startling revelation, whether it be disturbing, helpful, or a combination of both, will inevitably come from the camera.

3 Julie Says She Still Hears Screaming In Her Head

The Worst May Not Be Completely Behind Her

During her time with Elgin, Julie its that even though her being possessed seemingly ended during the From season 2 ending, she still hears screaming in her head. The marijuana is meant to help with this, along with the many other traumas and stressors consuming her. Julie is no longer screaming and writhing as her eyes roll into the back of her head, but the effects of what she endured are still lingering, and are not as defeated as they seemed to be.

This episode is not the first in season 3 to suggest this. Earlier outings hinted at it with Randall (A.J. Simmons) seeing the cicadas, which were part of him being possessed alongside Julie in season 2. Kristi's partner and fellow nurse, Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), was the third and final member of the possessed trio that survived after Boyd smashed the music box. Marielle has seemed to be doing fine this season, but if Julie and Randall are still being affected by it, there may be more going on with Marielle than meets the eye.

2 Boyd Shuts Down Acosta

He Is Not Going To Be Her Friend

After the town meeting, Acosta goes to see Boyd at the sheriff's station. She thanks him for sticking up for her at the meeting and talks about the importance of keeping the residents focused on something else to avoid widespread panic. Boyd does not respond well to Acosta trying to make a connection with him, as he emphasizes that he was not sticking up for her during the meeting, that he blames her for Nicky's death and nearly letting Tabitha and Henry die, and that she has no right to tell him how to run the town.

Acosta left Tabitha chained inside the ambulance the night they arrived in Town.

Acosta misinterpreted Boyd trying to keep the peace as him offering a hand to her, but it is not surprising that she tried to build this connection. It is now unclear what Acosta's role will be, although she has the potential to be a wild card given that she is not close to anyone, and is being treated as a social pariah. This could lead her to make more reckless decisions that endanger the lives of others, or she may try to atone for her past mistakes by proving to be helpful.

1 Tabitha Takes Jade To The Faraway Bottle Tree

Jade Thinks They Are Making Progress

Before Dale goes through the faraway bottle tree, Tabitha takes Jade (David Alpay) there. He does not make the mistake of going through the tree and even warns Dale against doing so after he arrives. Jade is instead more focused on the bottles and on fishing out the pieces of paper inside of them. Between the symbol he has been seeing, the hallucinations, and his generally analytical mind, Jade remains convinced that everything is an important piece in the larger puzzle they are trying to solve.
