Over the course of 10 seasons, Rachel, and Ross, allowing viewers to get to know them quite well, but it still left many questions about their lives.
Friends mostly explored each character’s love lives and actually gave a lot of attention to that part of their lives, following them through various break-ups, reconciliations, and some truly awkward and toxic relationships. One character who was caught in a sort of romantic loop throughout most of the series was Chandler, who had an on-again-off-again relationship with Janice (Maggie Wheeler), who ended up becoming a recurrent character and gag in Friends, as well as a fan-favorite. However, Friends ignored one very important part of Chandler and Janice’s story: how they met.
Why Friends Never Told How Chandler & Janice Met
Janice is one of four when Chandler lied about moving to Yemen.
Friends never showed nor mentioned how Chandler and Janice met, as opposed to Rachel and Ross and other, minor couples throughout the series who met before the pilot episode. However, the reason why Friends skipped the story of how Chandler and Janice met is most likely due to them not being a main or “big” couple, as opposed (again) to Rachel and Ross, who ended up becoming the show’s main couple. Chandler and Janice’s roller-coaster relationship was more of a gag, so there was no need to explore how they met, even if the audience was curious about it.
How Could Chandler & Janice Have Met?
Friends had a couple of flashbacks to the younger years of Rachel, Monica, Ross, and Chandler, as they have all known each other the longest. Some of those flashbacks are from Ross and Chandler’s college years and there was no mention of Janice, and she didn’t show up at their college reunion, either. It’s understood, then, that Chandler and Janice didn’t meet in college, and instead met some time later, though exactly when and how they met remains a mystery. Chandler and Janice are one of Friends’ many examples of a toxic relationship, though one made for the entertainment of the audience.
