As former Friends star Matthew Perry prepares to release his memoir, his biggest claim to fame, playing Chandler in the classic 90s-2000s sitcom, remains the biggest topic of interest in the book-to-be. Chandler had many notable catchphrases and significant aspects of his personality, but his interactions with his other friends were always the most important.Chandler and Joey had a very real friendship, one filled with fights and criticisms, but always returned to the best friendship. In a moment that was caught on camera, there is a scene in the episode "The One Where No One's Ready" where Joey and Chandler have been fighting over a seat in the main apartment. As the script called for, Joey jumped into the chair before Chandler could reach it, but as Matt LeBlanc made his leap, he landed wrong, Friends HBOMax reunion special released last year.
Seeing as everything turned out fine in the end, the "Chandler sitting on Joey" ordeal has since become a widespread meme, and this Twitter claims to see the resemblance of this scenario everywhere, including in the behaviors of and friendship between their friend's cats.
Opposites Attract
This Tumblr post is both a meme about unenthusiastic students and the difference between two best friends and their outlooks on the world. In the London episode of Friends, Chandler and Joey decide to go sightseeing. While Joey is completely enthralled with their entire trip and all the places they go, Chandler is not having any of it. In this photo, he sits, unfazed and a little annoyed, as Joey leans over him to take touristy photos.
Comparing their interactions to that of two school kids really encapsulates not only the overall idea of "opposites attract" in best friends across generations, but also the childlike wonder that Joey exhibits in this scene and the entire episode, let alone the show as a whole. To say that two friends on a school trip are similar to Chandler and Joey seems right up these two and their dynamic's alley anyway.
Joey's Judgment
Part of Joey and Chandler's friendship was that they were never afraid to criticize each other. And while Joey walking in on Chandler in the bathtub isn't necessarily something he can quite comprehend, Chandler doesn't think twice before joking around with his excuse.
The look on Joey's face subsides almost immediately afterward, as he continues to go about his business. And though in this scene Chandler was actually hiding something from Joey (his relationship with Monica), Joey at first chooses to just believe his best friend's excuse, as he usually does.
Thinking the Same
Something any two people with a close bond have most definitely experienced in their life is feeling like they share the same brain for a moment of alike thinking. Joey and Chandler, in their constant state of being somewhat attached at the hip, are shown here getting overly excited, as this Instagram meme captions, it with the relatable occurrence that could very well have been a moment of "sharing one brain cell."
Joey and Chandler share a lot of iconic conversations and quotes that prove they were best friends, so to think they were often on the same wavelength beyond what the viewer sees in the show is not all that hard to believe.
BFFs
Though this meme also serves as an app, it is a pretty good summary of the two men's interactions. While Joey and Chandler were most definitely best friends, there was much commotion in a few individual episodes where Chandler reminds Joey how much he relies on him financially and one instance where the reverse is the case.
Even though the two guys were definitely BFFs, it's safe to say that that abbreviation could very well stand for "best financial friends" as this meme displays, as much as it could for the standard phrase. Either way, Joey and Chandler were always there for each other, be it "financial" or "forever."
Abandonment
As seen through plots about Chandler's relationships and steps in his marriage/career, as well as the arc where Joey moves out, Joey often feels jealous of Chandler's other relationships and friendships. An iconic line of his, "Joey doesn't share food," was a quote directed at a girl that Joey had gone on a couple of dates with and broke it off with when he couldn't bring himself to split what was on his plate. With how close Joey and Chandler were throughout the show, it's not out of the realm of possibility to think that they were occasionally referred to as just a bit more. Fortunately, Monica was always very ive of the guys' bromance, and welcomed Joey into her and Chandler's home whenever Joey would invite himself.
Though Monica is stated more than once to have had a crush on Joey and some think they would have been a great couple, the beauty of the group's dynamic is that Joey and Chandler's relationship will always keep their trio strong.
Finding Each Other
Though more of an inspirational tweet than a meme, this 's claim that "you aren't bad" and "you don't annoy people" but that "you just haven't found your Chandler to your Joey" is a very kind, encouraging message about friendship and a good example of how close the two guys seemed to have been throughout the show.
Joey and Chandler, despite their differences, always gave off the feeling of being "platonic soulmates" so to speak, in that they would have always found each other and become friends, no matter the means. Therefore, to claim someone is the "Chandler to their Joey," likely means that they are two friends that will find each other eventually because they are destined to do so.
Then and Now
Probably the most accurate display of Joey and Chandler's friendship, this meme takes a photo of the two characters smiling at each other in the first season of the show and compares it to an image of the two actors, Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc, smiling at each other fondly nearly 30 years later.
A clear display of an everlasting bond, knowledge of the actors' interactions isn't necessary to know that the characters are most definitely still speaking on a day-to-day basis. After all, Monica and Chandler did make sure they had a "Joey room" in their house.
