For a group of Friends living it up in the Big Apple, the world of horror seems like a distant threat, if it even exists. However, throwing them into the midst of stories about undead ghouls, masked slashers, or cursed objects would most likely elicit unpredictable responses from each of them. Well, to a point, anyway.
Some of them are liable to die instantly, whether through arrogance or ineptitude, while others struggle to stay alive as long as possible before they are also gruesomely dispatched. At the end, there can only be one winner — a single champion who overcomes all the odds against their survival. Which of the Friends is it going to be?
Janice Hosenstein
There is no doubt that Janice would be the first to go because she is apt to burst into one of her trademark quacks that will draw the attention of every demon/ghost/zombie in sight.
Her voice is so nasal and painful to hear that one might argue that she could drive most people away with it, but would this apply to creatures that are trying to kill her? Probably not. The major problem, though, is that she might get the humans around her murdered because of her utter lack of self-awareness.
Ross Geller
Ross has a brilliant academic mind, being one of the premier paleontologists on the East Coast, but his street smarts leave a lot to be desired. He constantly makes the most basic faux pas, clearly ignoring most social conventions that insist on a specific expectation of behavior, not to mention his tendency to enter into rage mode, both of which will be highly precarious in a horror situation.
The worst part is that Ross cannot tolerate being wrong for any reason, which means that he behaves recklessly in an attempt to prove that he is more "rational" than others.
Gunther
Gunther is mostly unobtrusive, and this habit of being a wallflower would certainly be useful when it comes to hiding from serial killers and such. On the other hand, he smokes like a chimney, which raises the risks of him being caught by any evil lurking nearby (assuming the aforementioned evil has a powerful sense of smell.)
The reason, however, that he is more likely to die than the other characters, is because of his infatuation with Rachel. In other words, Gunther is bound to do something stupid in order to "save" her, which wouldn't have the desired effect but would still result in his death.
Chandler Bing
Chandler is hilarious, so he is likely to be the source of comfort for his friends in a dangerous situation, but this only applies if they are in a safe location.
To put it simply, if he decides to employ his iconic snark in the middle of an escape scenario, then it's goodbye, funny guy. Another thing about Chandler is that he was bullied as a child, which means he is overly sensitive to most forms of criticism, and this results in a need to constantly lie about things instead of facing his problems head-on.
Monica Geller
Monica is sharp-witted and quite dominating, which would allow her to survive a horror entity slightly longer than the others — especially if her phenomenal organization and rule-establishment talents are employed in the act of protecting herself and her loved ones.
On the other hand, her unbearable "neat freak" demeanor is sure to cause issues in an apocalyptic sequence of events, because running around super-cleaning her surroundings might take priority over, say, finding food, water, or medical supplies.
Carol Willick
Carol, Ross' ex-wife, has a strong personality, even if she doesn't always display that side of her. Unlike him, she is quite athletic, or was in her youth, having played various sports such as golf and lacrosse at the university level.
These features are certain to come in handy whilst in a dire situation, mainly those that require agility, flexibility, and core strength. Unfortunately, Carol's survival in a horror plotline is not guaranteed, because of her gentle disposition (and her obvious willingness to sacrifice her life to save her son, if necessary.)
Charlie Wheeler
Charlie Wheeler is easily going to survive in a horror movie, not least because of her confident nature and self-assured sense of identity. Sure, she might be hung up on her exes, but she is an incredibly smart scientist, so she would perhaps be involved in the research aspect of things, for example, developing a cure for a zombie virus.
Charlie isn't the type to act as a savior, though, which means she would let others die if it compromised the safety of the entire group (even if some of her cohorts are against the idea.)
Rachel Green
Rachel may have been spoiled as a child, but she is most definitely going to go all out in a life or death scenario, and even more so if her daughter, Emma, is in danger.
There is no doubting the power of a new mother, as anyone who has accidentally come across a group of bear cubs might be able to articulate. Further, Rachel is comionate, a trait that will bear fruit when it involves making extremely tough decisions (such as those that are contrary to the ones proposed by logical people like Charlie.)
Joey Tribbiani
Joey is the diametric opposite of Ross, in that he has no academic intelligence whatsoever, but he tends to be supremely aware of what happens on a physiological level. In other words, he would be the type to sacrifice himself to save his friends (well, maybe just Chandler), but that should count for something, right?
Joey is physically strong as well, which means that he could offer his services in of combat, such as battling a horde of zombies or trying to disarm a serial killer.
Phoebe Buffay
Of course, it's going to be Phoebe who lasts until the end, maybe even defeats whatever evil is stalking the world at the time. She is quite out of her mind, but not really in an insane way, which allows her to think from radically alternative perspectives that most others can't even imagine the possibilities for.
Phoebe's loyalty and devotion to her friends are not features to be minimized or scoffed at, because it is exactly those traits that most protagonists in a horror film tend to possess.
