Will Smith says that he regrets his feud with his The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Janet Hubert, who played Aunt Vivian in the first three seasons of the 90s sitcom. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air originally ran on NBC from 1990-1996, and starred Smith as a fictional version of himself, who lives with his wealthy Uncle Phil (James Avery) and Aunt Vivian, along with their children. Hubert left the sitcom after its third season, and Daphne Maxwell Reid took over the role of Aunt Vivian for the rest of the show's run. However, Smith and Hubert later reconciled while filming a reunion special, which was released on HBO Max in 2020.
In an episode of Black Comedy in America (via People), Smith talked about his feud with Hubert. In the interview, Smith said that he made a "horrible error" in his working relationship with her. He also said that at the time, he didn't understand how important she was to the show. Smith also shared that he didn't know how important she was to him at that time in his life. What Will Smith's Comments Mean For The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air
Smith And Hubert Have Left Their Feud Behind Them
Smith saying that he regrets his feud with Hubert, as well as praising her, shows that the two have continued to have a good relationship in the years since they reconciled while filming the reunion special. Hubert's appearance was one of the most memorable parts of the special, where she shared with Smith her point of view of the situation. Now that the two have put their feud behind them, it does open the possibility that they may work together again someday, this time with a better relationship.
Hubert's reconciliation with Smith, as well as her appearance in the reunion special, also shows that she could return to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air franchise. Hubert could make an appearance in the fourth and final season of Peacock's Bel-Air. The series has already had appearances from Reid, as well as Tatyana Ali (Ashely) and Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey)
Our Take On Will Smith Regretting The Feud
The Actors' Reconciliation Helps The Sitcom's Legacy
In the decades since the show ended, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air has continued to be one of the most popular sitcoms of the 90s. However, one thing that hurt the show's legacy for years was the feud between the two actors. Now that they have reconciled, it does remove a feeling of awkwardness that fans who knew about the feud would have when watching them onscreen together.
Their reconciliation also adds one more positive story to the history of the sitcom. Smith expressing regret over what happened also shows how he has grown as a person, something viewers of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air would tune in to see happen to the fictional version of Will in most episodes.
