Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Found season 2, episode 3.

Although she remains in critical condition, Lacey is finally freed in opportunity to escape Gabi once more.

Sir's current whereabouts remain unknown, and whether his brother, Christian, will offer additional help locating him is also uncertain. Despite being free from Gabi's basement, Sir continues to assist Gabi with cases and may even find a way to do so in episodes. However, Mark-Paul Gosselaar doesn't believe his character locates missing people out of the goodness of his heart. Gosselaar shares that, like Sir's decision to keep Lacey alive, it's a way to preserve his connection with Gabi.

Screen Rant interviews Gosselaar about Christian's arrival, Sir's feelings towards Lacey, and whether his character could be redeemed in Found season 2 or beyond.

Sir Is Jealous Of His Brother's Ability To Connect With Gabi

"It annoys him more than anything that Christian is involved in any capacity, and especially that he is connecting with Gabrielle on a level that he can't at the moment."

Sir sitting at a desk and looking angry in Found season 2.

Screen Rant: We met Sir's brother in 202, who was able to figure out where he was keeping Lacey. Now that there's someone involved who knows him so well, does that put Sir even more on edge?

Mark-Paul Gosselaar: On the surface, sure. I think it annoys him more than anything that Christian is involved in any capacity, and especially that he is connecting with Gabrielle on a level that he can't at the moment. I don't think that he would assume Christian would jeopardize him, but yeah, there are just a lot of components.

I don't think it's one of those things that would make Sir on edge for that particular reason of giving up his location. I don't think he thinks his brother would betray him and do that, but there are definitely other things. His brother doesn't understand the relationship that he has with Gabrielle, and the fact that he gets to be in a room with her and Sir can't at the moment, really bother him.

Lacey previously called Sir out when she said he missed working on cases. Would you say it's because it brought him closer to Gabi, or does he like being right about these things? Could there be something else there, as well?

Mark-Paul Gosselaar: There's probably truth to all those statements. From what I played in the basement was that if there was a case, it meant I could have a connection to Gabrielle. And, yeah, he likes to be right. He likes to work, he likes to solve things, and exercise his brain, and all those things. But I think the way that I play the character is any time that he can have that connection to Gabrielle, it's a good day for Sir.

Lacey was obviously a bargaining chip to keep Gabi close, but did Sir also keep her alive because Gabi would never forgive him if he killed her?

Mark-Paul Gosselaar: Yeah, that is absolutely right. I played Sir as thinking that Lacey was disposable other than the fact that if he were to dispose of her, and he would like nothing more than to do that because he's blamed her for the demise of his relationship with Gabrielle and her escaping, he's very aware that that would be the end of that connection that he shares with Gabrielle.

Sir's Love For Gabi Is Not Based On Physical Attraction

"There's nothing sexual about it. He just enjoys her company, and her presence, and everything that she has to offer."

Sir and Gabi looking at each other in Found season 1.

Sir always tells Gabi he's not a killer. Is that just something he says, or do you think he actually doesn't want to murder anyone?

Mark-Paul Gosselaar: I don't know. It's still up in the air. The challenge of television is that we are given the pilot script and we run from there. There is no beginning, middle, end in these stories generally. With Found, we started kind of squarely in the middle, and then you just learn things about the character, and we're learning along with the audience.

So I have to believe that he's not a killer, but I'm not a hundred percent sure because he'll say things like, "I'm not a liar either," and I'm like, "Really? I feel like you've lied." But in his mind, and it's not a pretty place to be, he comes up with these scenarios and stories that he believes. So I'm not entirely sure. [Laughs] It makes for interesting television.

What is Sir's endgame here? In a perfect world, does he just think, "If I keep Gabi with me, eventually, she'll learn to love me?"

Mark-Paul Gosselaar: I think, in his mind, she does love him, and she doesn't express it in the way that he would like. In a perfect world, it would just be a partnership. It would be a relationship. There's nothing sexual about it. He just enjoys her company and her presence and everything that she has to offer, and, primarily, her intellect and brilliance. In a perfect world, they'd be traveling the world and reading books and savoring art and enjoying the finer points of life and connecting on all those things.

It's just interesting because it's never been a relationship based on a physical attraction. I'm sure that Sir finds her pretty, but it's not what draws him to Gabrielle. We saw it in last season where he was picking a book for her to read about Paris and asking her to change her name, and they were just going to go on this journey together. He is just living in fantasy.

Lacey's Relationship With Gabi Is Her "Saving Grace"

"She is one of the main actors in Gabrielle's life, and he's very aware of that, so he has to be careful of what he wants."

Sir yelling at Lacey in Found season 2.

Sir might've been watching Lacey, but he had never interacted with her as an adult until now. Is there anything about this older version of Lacey that surprised him?

Mark-Paul Gosselaar: No. [Laughs] I feel that Lacey is a means to an end, and she's disposable. He'll say later that people are merely tools—a means to an end so that I could be of help to Gabrielle. And I think he views everyone like that. I think he views her whole team—M&A, Trent, anyone that comes into with her. Lacey's no different. He questions their intellect and just everything about them.

They're merely puppets in Sir's world. The only thing I think that would be the saving grace is that she is one of the main actors in Gabrielle's life, and he's very aware of that, so he has to be careful of what he wants. Otherwise, I feel, if I was watching the show and not playing this character, he would've gotten rid of her a long time ago.

Sir has proven that he actually brings a lot to these cases. Do you ever see a scenario where he is redeemed enough to play a different type of role, or does the severity of what he's done mean he always needs to be a villain?

Mark-Paul Gosselaar: I would just ask the question, does Sir need redemption, or does he get redemption by doing these cases? And I think, and I say I think because I play the character this way, and NK might have a different theory, but I play it as that he's not searching for redemption. That's not why he solves these cases and why he helps. It goes back to that connection. In Sir's head, he hasn't done anything wrong. This was destiny, this relationship with Gabrielle.

It hasn't gone the way that he wants and doesn't feel he's done anything wrong, really. The question of redemption, I don't think, ever crosses his mind. Again, it could change in season 3, and we're hopefully back in Atlanta filming another 22 episodes and things could change, and then I'll have to pivot and go along with it. I'm along for the ride and whenever they throw at me. It's been great so far, and I feel so fortunate to be able to be a part of this journey with the entire cast and crew.
