Found Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know

NBC's Found offered a pleasant change of pace from the typical procedural format, and now the series has been renewed for a second season.

Screen Rant interviewed Dalton about the aftermath of Found season 1, what Gabi's confession means for her relationship with Trent, and the team's search for Lacey.

Dalton Believes That Trent And Gabi's Dilemma In Found Season 2 Makes For Great Television

"That's what you want in a drama. You want to put these characters in the worst day of their life, the most complicated thing that you can imagine for them."

Screen Rant: I'm still hung up on the season 1 finale, so what was your initial reaction when reading the season 1 finale script and discovering the cliffhanger?

Brett Dalton: For me, it was like, "Well, when does Trent find out?" The entire team does, and it's done really beautifully in this slow motion reveal with all the other characters. That's like new fear, new threat unlocked. Suddenly this person who was helping with cases and at least a contained threat is now out in the wild, and it's just pretty crazy.

This is the person that you can't quite get rid of, and now he's out there in the wild with everybody else. We leave season 1 on quite a cliffhanger, and it set up for season 2 to start off with such a bang. I guess I can't reveal very much at all other than it'll be really exciting. Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off and turns up the dial a few notches.

In the season 2 trailer, we see Gabi telling Trent the truth about Sir. What position will that put him in as a detective?

Brett Dalton: That's what you want in a drama. You want to put these characters in the worst day of their life, the most complicated thing that you can imagine for them, which is tough for the characters, but it makes for really good television. Gabi is someone who breaks all of the rules and Trent is someone who follows all of them. We will have to see if his love and affection for Gabi can somehow overcome someone who has betrayed him at the deepest level and also straight up done some, not just rule-bendy things, but some straight-up illegal things, and how that will play out.

There's a lot going on for Trent, for Gabi, for the whole team, and they were good at solving cases, and they still are good at solving cases, but now there's something else that is in the mix, which is an ongoing threat in Sir escaping. So yeah, it's a tough position. That's a tough position for Trent to be in, that's for sure. We're going to see if love conquers all.

There's a line in the finale when Trent mentions that Gabi still talks about Sir in the present tense. I'm assuming he never thought Sir was in her basement, but what do you think Trent's suspicions were?

Brett Dalton: He is a smart cop and little mentions like that don't go unnoticed, so I think he's piecing things together. I think that there's doubt. I think there's maybe some suspicion here, but I think you're right. I don't think he makes that jump to, "Oh, you've kidnapped Sir, and he's in your basement and is helping you solve these cases." But I do think that he thought there might've been some , whether that be through letters or something.

All of these signs seem to be pointing to some sort of indication that Sir is in the present and not just in the past, and that he is still out there in some way, shape, or form. People don't just disappear. He's very rational and very rule-based and all of that. I think that he's smart enough to start piecing things together, but also, he's not going to jump to a conclusion unless he has all of the pieces put together. It's also part of his job too—building cases and doing all of that stuff, so he's not somebody who jumps to conclusions either.

"All Systems Go Threat Level Red" After Sir's Escape And Lacey's Abduction

"I am doing my best to protect the people that I love and respect and care about. Trent, at the end of the day, is one hundred percent a protector."

Gabi and Trent almost kiss in the season 1 finale, but there's a lot of new information that's come out. How is that going to affect a potential romance between them?

Brett Dalton: That is definitely the question. Gabi has been holding onto secrets that would break and challenge any relationship, let alone somebody who is in the police department. It's a really big question. I don't know how to answer that without spoiling anything. But their relationship will one hundred percent be challenged as much as it possibly can. This isn't just friends, not agreeing, like her team.

This is different because she's assembled her team around her, and they're all working together, but they don't have the authority to do anything other than maybe not be friends with her anymore or maybe not work with her. But Trent is in a position where he might have to take legal action, and this falls into, not just a deal breaker with friendship, but also possibly bigger consequences like jail time and real world consequences here that he's in the middle of.

Trent has spent a lot of time with Lacey throughout season 1 and even formed a bond with her outside of Gabi. How does her abduction affect him?

Brett Dalton: I feel like anything that affects Gabi also affects me. And I make a promise to her in the very beginning of the season, which is, "I am going to capture Sir. I'm going to put your nightmare to an end and make sure that this person is behind bars so that you can do your healing, and maybe we can be together." And yes, I have a relationship with Lacey. I have a relationship with Margaret, with Zeke, with Dhan. All of these people I feel almost more at home with than I do my own department.

So to have one of the good guys out there, even though they're not wearing the badge, any harm to them, I know that I'm also not just losing a partner, but also a friend. All systems go threat level red, and I am doing my best to protect the people that I love and respect and care about. Trent, at the end of the day, is one hundred percent a protector. He always does the right thing and always wants the people who are close to him and who are in his sphere to be safe and protected. And so that's a huge threat when one of those people is abducted by the greatest threat.

It makes for great television, but it's Trent's worst nightmare as well. There's a dynamic with all of the characters, and I think that Lacey, in particular, can almost feel like the most vulnerable. She's very good at the law, but it's not like Dhan who could probably handle himself in a fight. Lacey is the youngest in the team, and she also is the closest to Gabi. She's probably the closest thing that Gabi has to family at this point. For Sir to choose her is a deliberate choice that hurts Gabi the most. And what hurts Gabi the most, also hurts Trent the most.
