Films like Matt Reeves’ The Batman would exist under a different banner called DC Elseworlds.

With a bright future ahead and new leadership bringing fresh ideas to the table, The Flash was confirmed to reset the universe. The film has seen its fair share of delays over the years, with different directors coming on and leaving the project. It director Andy Muschietti finally came on to helm The Flash movie, and it has a full slate of characters — old and new. Michael Keaton’s version of Batman is expected to play a role, as is Ben Affleck’s iteration of The Dark Knight. Crucially, Sasha Calle will be introduced as Supergirl, and it’s possible she will become the first major DCU character moving forward.

Sasha Calle's Supergirl Should Be From The DCU Universe

The Flash movie will be exploring the multiverse, but Calle’s Supergirl should be introduced as originating within the DCU and not DC Elseworlds. This would allow the character to remain within the DCU’s primary canon. Now that Henry Cavill is no longer playing Superman, Supergirl can exist on her own in the DCU without being beholden to the Superman narrative that came before. This would also allow Calle’s Supergirl to potentially play a role in Superman: Legacy, which will involve the new DCU version of Clark Kent, and will officially kick off Gunn and Safran’s overarching DCU plans.

Supergirl being from the DCU instead of an Elseworlds version of her ensures that she will be important moving forward. Supergirl’s DCU presence would also speak of the potential the new universe has in of what it can offer. It makes sense if Keaton version of Batman is from an alternate world or that Affleck's Dark Knight might be reset, but Supergirl is a fresh character in DC’s new movie canon, and it would make her seem unimportant to the DCU if she wasn’t made a part of it. Supergirl being from the DCU also means she can open up a whole new world, one that isn’t already overshadowed by Superman, her famous cousin.

The Flash Can't Be Calle's Only Supergirl Appearance, Right?

Multiple variants of the Flash in The Flash movie

It’s been confirmed that Supergirl would be getting her own solo movie called Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is influenced by Tom King’s comic miniseries. Although Supergirl is flying off on her own adventure in the DCU, it has yet to be revealed whether Calle would be reprising her role as the Girl of Steel, or if this Supergirl would be portrayed by someone else. It’s hard to imagine Calle’s The Flash role being the only time she ever plays Supergirl. It would make sense to bring her back, especially if her Supergirl is confirmed as the DCU’s primary version of the character.

It’s worth noting that her The Flash appearance won’t be her last. With the DCU seemingly on track, already having an actress in the role of Supergirl is beneficial.
