Five Nights at Freddy's director Emma Tammi has given a cryptic response to the idea that Garrett's ghost appears in the movie. The new character - played by Lucas Grant - created for the film is the younger brother of the protagonist, Mike Schmidt, who was kidnapped and killed by William Afton as a child. Despite the murderer's other victims possessing animatronics, Garrett is seemingly nowhere to be found.
However, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Tammi didn't rule out the possibility that the Five Nights at Freddy's movie features Garrett's ghost. The director explained how she didn't want to deny any theories viewers may have about his presence. Check out what Tammi had to say below:
I feel like that could also be a nice thing for the fan base to mull over. I’d love to not shut down anyone’s theories.
Could Garrett Appear In Five Nights At Freddy's 2?
While most of the film saw Garrett kidnapped repeatedly in Mike's reoccurring dream, the young boy did speak to his brother in his final nightmare. He tells his older brother to give Abby over to the other murdered children so he can dream about their family being whole again. It's unclear if this dream version of the boy is really him, or if it's an illusion created by the other murdered children.
The Five Nights at Freddy's ending doesn't offer any clues either, setting up William becoming Springtrap as the children realize he was behind their deaths. However, it's possible the young boy's appearance as a ghost is being saved for a future film. Perhaps a possible Five Nights at Freddy's 2 can establish Garrett as another important animatronic in the series, such as the Puppet.
If the boy's ghost does make a proper appearance in a Five Nights at Freddy's sequel, it can help bring closure to where his spirit ended up after William killed him. It also means Mike could return in a follow-up movie as he learns where his brother's soul went after his murder. There's still plenty of mystery surrounding whether Garrett appeared in the first film after all, but anything could happen with his character in the future.
