With Five Nights at Freddy's fans excited about a potential cinematic sequel to 2023's hit film, it's clear that Five Nights at Freddy's 2 must pay off the first movie's most legendary Easter egg. Created by Scott Cawthon, FNAF's multimedia empire began in 2014 with the release of the first Five Nights at Freddy's video game. The point-and-click survival horror game sees the player take control of Mike Schmidt, a nighttime security guard who must outlast a pizzeria's homicidal animatronics. As the series goes on, the lore becomes increasingly complex. Instead of replicating the games' and books' canon, the FNAF movie puts its own spin on familiar concepts.

In the Five Nights at Freddy's movie, Josh Hutcherson plays the cinematic universe's Mike Schmidt. Forced to take the security guard job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria in order to maintain custody of his younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), Mike gets up close and personal with the horrifying animatronics. While dodging Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, Mike is convinced that FNAF movie's iconic Golden Freddy cameo. Still, one ode to the games stands out as something a movie sequel must address.

Five Nights At Freddy's Sparky The Dog Tease Is Great For FNAF 2

Sparky the Dog animatronic lies in pieces in the FNAF movie

At one point during the film, viewers can catch a glimpse of a disassembled animatronic suit. It's head, torso, and limbs lie in a mountain of machinery, suggesting it has been defunct for some time. Eagle-eyed FNAF fans were quick to notice that the suit wasn't Freddy or any of the other key characters from the film. In fact, the discarded animatronic suit is a deep-cut reference to the Five Nights at Freddy's fandom. The suit glimpsed in the movie's Parts & Service room is none other than Sparky the Dog. Of all the Five Nights at Freddy's movie cameos, Sparky might just be the most legendary.

2023's Five Nights at Freddy's movie follows the game's plot, with Mike Schmidt as the protagonist. Yet, the next installment may not have him return.

When the first Five Nights at Freddy's game was released and began to take the internet by storm, a player spread rumors of a hidden sixth animatronic character. Dubbed Sparky the Dog. Soon enough, the alleged sixth animatronic began surfacing in what appeared to be screenshots of FNAF. Eventually, the creators of the one-armed, non-threatening canine animatronic itted that Sparky was a photoshopped fan hoax. In a franchise fueled by fan theories, Sparky has remained a key part of the fandom. The animatronic's appearance in the movie suggests that, if the second outing is a prequel, the Sparky the Dog animatronic could be a fully functional, integral character.

Five Nights At Freddy's 2 Can Give Sparky The Role The Games Never Did

Although Sparky the Dog was a hoax created by fans of the first Five Nights at Freddy's game, it's no secret that Cawthon loves interacting with the FNAF fandom. Part of what made Five Nights at Freddy's a mega-hit is the game series' compelling lore, which is gradually revealed by Cawthon over time. Needless to say, fan theories dominate the fandom's discussions. Surprisingly, Sparky was never really incorporated into the franchise — apart from a Sparky ode in the books known as Fetch. However, the movie's tease sets up Sparky's role perfectly, making him a must-see character in a (highly likely) Five Nights at Freddy's sequel movie.
