While there are many Bug-types already in Pokémon GO, Shedinja is the only one that also has Ghost-typing. Much like how cicadas lose their shells, this Hoenn Pokémon is the haunted shell left behind by Nincada when it evolves into Ninjask in the mainline games. Those who peer into the hollow hole on its motionless body are said to lose their spirit.

When it was introduced in Ruby and Sapphire back in the third generation, Shedinja stood out and still does, thanks to its Wonder Guard ability. This made it immune to all types of attacks except those it was weak to, in exchange for having only 1 HP; this meant anything that did injure it would take it down instantly. Unfortunately Pokémon GO's Shedinja does not retain this ability, but continues to only have 1 HP. This makes it very difficult to use in Pokémon GO battles, so players will likely only want to add a Shedinja to their roster to complete their Pokédex.

Since Pokémon GO functions differently than the mainline titles, getting Shedinja is also a bit different in the game. In the mainline games, players could have extra space for a Pokémon and an extra Pokéball to evolve Nincada into Shedinja. However, this evolution process does not work in Pokémon GO. Instead, in the mobile game, players are required to complete seven tasks and a research breakthrough to get Shedinja. Thankfully, there is a way to expedite the entire process that could take longer otherwise. Here's how players can get Shedinja in Pokémon GO.

Getting Shedinja in Pokémon GO

Pokemon Go Buddy Hearts

Unlike in the main series games, this Pokémon does not appear when Nincadas evolve. In fact, they cannot be found anywhere in the wild, even places where Bug types normally appear like parks. Instead, players will have a chance encounter with one after completing a research breakthrough, which is obtained after completing 7 research tasks. Be mindful though that this breakthrough does not last forever, so Shedinja can only be caught during a designated time of the year. Currently, research tasks that will help find them can be spun from Pokéstops out in the world during October 2020.

To help expedite the process, here are a few tips to consider. Each specific Pokéstop will give the same task every day. Find one that is easy and quick to complete, like trading a Pokémon and Sinnoh stones.
