Releasing on the GameCube in 2003, Final Fantasy series that encouraged playing with real-world friends. Up to four players could explore the world via caravan, take on enemies in dungeons, and rid the land of the mysterious Miasma. It was a fairly innovative game in of its multiplayer function, but it was also incredibly costly.

In order to get the full multiplayer experience in the original game, players needed a GameCube, Crystal Chronicles software, multiple Game Boy Advances, and multiple link cables. It was an incredibly pricey endeavor, especially for gamers who didn't have friends with Game Boy Advances. Because of this, many people weren't able to take full advantage of the game's multiplayer function. Now, with Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition coming out, these issues are thankfully resolved.

The remastered version of Crystal Chronicles comes with a host of improvements, from enhanced graphics to entirely new content. The game also comes with major changes to how its multiplayer works. As in the original Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, players can choose from four races, each one with different skills and abilities. This means figuring out a four-player party that works is tantamount to staying alive. Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles also rewards players for going through the story in co-op, like increasing the damage the party deals and making certain challenges much easier.

Thankfully, the new multiplayer features are far less costly as well. Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition takes multiplayer completely online. This means players don't have to worry about buying a bunch of extra components or stress about gathering together in the same room. As long as there's an internet connection, players can experience the game with their friends.

The good news doesn't stop there, either. The remastered version of Crystal Chronicles also has crossplay, ing a growing list of games that allows multiplayer across multiple platforms, which means people playing the game on PS4 can experience Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles alongside those playing on iOS, Android, or Switch. All versions of the remastered edition can be played together. A lite version is free for everyone and will allow players to go through the first three dungeons of the game in either single-player or multiplayer. However, if one person buys the full edition of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, then three friends with the lite edition can still participate in extended multiplayer. This greatly reduces the cost of playing the remastered version even more.

The original GameCube version of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles wasn't a bad game, but it demanded some pricey requirements from players who wanted to get the full multiplayer experience with their friends. Luckily, Square Enix has taken the time to add quality-of-life improvements and modern enhancements to multiplayer features in Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Remastered Edition. It's a great way for people to play together in a much more cost-friendly way.
