The wait between releases of the ambitious Final Fantasy 7 Remake project has been quite long, but the final part of the remake, and sequel to the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, may be closer to release than previously thought after a recent update by the game's lead voice actor. The FF7 Remake series is confirmed to be a trilogy, and the wait between Remake and Rebirth was 4 years, so naturally, fans are eager to get their hands on the final installment of the project.
Cody Christian, voice actor of Cloud, posted an Instagram story of himself in a voice recording booth and captioned the photo with: "so happy to be back with my bestie," with the photo having a tiny depiction of Cloud himself. The photo from the Instagram story is now gone, but a screenshot of it can be viewed on a ResetEra post (via GamesRadar+).
The timing of voice recording sessions for video games can vary quite a lot, but they usually occur when the game is nearing the end of main development to avoid script changes and leaks. This, of course, is just speculation, and there is no confirmation on whether voice recording has even begun for the game.
Voice Cast Recordings Have Apparently Started
Could The Game Be Far Along?
There's been a lot of discussion and speculation about when the sequel to FF7 Rebirth could release. But have voice recordings actually begun for the sequel? It's difficult to say, but given the timing of the Instagram story and actor Cody Christian's previous roles, it's definitely a possibility. Christian rose to prominence and acclaim for portraying Cloud Strife in Remake and Rebirth, but his schedule doesn't seem to be that packed, based on what we know. In 2024, he had two major credits: voice work for FF7 Rebirth and the sixth season of the TV show All American.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Has Broken The Record For The Highest Concurrent Steam Player Count Of Any FF Single-Player Title
Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth arrived on PCs less than a week ago and it's already sured other single-player Final Fantasy titles.
The fact that Christian is indeed in a voice recording booth in 2025 could definitely imply he is recording lines for the sequel to Rebirth. But it's also equally likely that it could be a recording for a spin-off, a guest character appearance, or something else altogether.
Could The Wait For FF7 Remake Part 3 Be Shorter?
There Was A Long Wait Between Remake And Rebirth
Director Naoki Hamaguchi previously revealed that a lot of the work on the FF7 Rebirth sequel was already complete, and that fans can expect to fully pilot the iconic Highwind airship seen in the original game and the end of FF7 Rebirth. That should be reassuring to some fans, given the almost 4-year wait between the release of Remake and Rebirth. The development of FF7 Rebirth was also partially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which pushed the game's development cycle to be a bit longer.
With Rebirth establishing the game's iconic locations and the general size of the game's open world, as well as expanding the foundations of a well-received combat system, it seems likely that the development time between Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the currently unnamed final part of the trilogy will be shorter than the time gap between Remake and Rebirth. Hopefully, Christian is indeed recording lines, and the game releases sooner rather than later. In the meantime, some fans may turn to some other FF entries to play while waiting for the much-anticipated sequel.
