Final Destination 6: Release Date, Cast, Story, Trailer & Everything We Know About Bloodlines
Final Destination 6 is finally happening, but it will be a reboot of the horror franchise. Here's everything we know about Bloodlines.
Final Destination 6 Promises To Be A Different Movie From Previous Installments
Jeffrey Reddick Teases A New Formula
Final Destination 6 will be a different movie from previous installments, according to multiple sources. Rachel O’Toole, production designer for the film, announced in 2023 that Final Destination 6 is considered a reboot due to its fresh take on the story, though she could not say much more. Furthermore, Final Destination’s creator, Jeffrey Reddick, also commented that the next installment in the horror franchise will have a different feel compared to the other movies. Despite the fact that Reddick will not be involved in the new movie, he talked about Final Destination 6 in an interview with Dread Central:
I had a very wonderful conversation with [Craig Perry]. I’m really excited with this story I can’t tell you about… I will say it’s not just going to be another kind of, you know, “we set up a group of people, they cheat death, and then just death gets them,” and there’s just one wrinkle that we kind of add every movie to kind of like change it up a little bit… It’s a true Final Destination movie, but it doesn’t follow that kind of formula that we’ve kind of established.
The official Final Destination 6 has been announced, although their characters are still under wraps. Featuring a list of mostly actors, with Teo Briones, Brec Bassinger, and Kaitlyn Santa Juana starring as lead characters, Final Destination 6 may offer their biggest roles yet. The premise of Final Destination 6 (which is officially titled Final Destination: Bloodlines) was teased back in 2020, and the film is expected to follow a group of first responders and emergency workers who will have to escape death in an interesting concept which diverts from the usual premise of Final Destination movies.
Final Destination Needs A Fresh Start After 5 Movies
The Franchise's Predictability Will Be Its Downfall
Over the years, Final Destination has risen to fame due to its interesting approach to the horror genre, however, after five movies following the same formula, the franchise could do with a fresh start. When Final Destination first premiered in 2000, the movie was a fresh take on the horror genre. Instead of having a physical villain killing people in the typical slasher movie fashion, Final Destination is a horror movie that uses an unseen entity to cause fear and tension. Death provides each character with a fatal, unknown destiny, which slowly unravels through an elaborate and tense setup.
Although some may argue that the predictable formula is what makes Final Destination one of the most easy-to-watch and entertaining horror movies, according to Rotten Tomatoes scores, the premise has worn thin.
Although some may argue that the predictable formula is what makes Final Destination one of the most easy-to-watch and entertaining horror movies, according to Rotten Tomatoes scores, the premise has worn thin. By focusing on a group of first responders as opposed to the group of students in the previous movies, the introduction of a new angle for the films could provide Final Destination 6 with the fresh start that the franchise needs. However, there has been emphasis that Final Destination 6 will not be a complete reboot and is still set in the same universe as previous films.
Don’t Expect Final Destination: Bloodlines To Be A Full Reboot
Final Destination 6 Expands On The Original Universe
Although it has been called a reboot due to its new approach, Final Destination: Bloodlines will not be a full reboot and will expand on the franchise’s original universe. In an interview with Collider, Reddick explained that “There’s an expansion of the world of Final Destination that I think the fans are gonna be really interested in and intrigued by,” as it “unearths a whole deep layer to the story.” Therefore, it has been suggested that Final Destination 6 may explain some of the lore behind death’s rules and why people are getting premonitions of major accidents before they happen.
One major thing that links previous films with the Final Destination sequel is the 2023 announcement that Tony Todd will return in Final Destination 6. Tony Todd has been featured in three Final Destination movies so far, as a creepy mortician called William Bludworth who explains the rules of death to different characters. Considering the film’s official title is Bloodlines, and there have been reports that the movie will explore Bludworth’s backstory as well as possible explanations of how the premonitions and Death’s revenge came about, it could be that Final Destination 6’s universe-expanding plot all lies in its name.
