Square Enix confirms that PlayStation 5 version of the game, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, and it stars the spunky ninja girl from Wutai as she sets out to steal the “Ultimate Materia” from the Shinra Corporation.
Aside from Yuffie’s mission, various other details regarding FF7R Episode INTERmission have been revealed since it was first announced, such as Yuffie’s combat style and some possible story ties to the 2006 spin-off game Dirge Of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. In a recent interview, Final Fantasy VII Remake co-directors Naoki Hamaguchi and Motomu Toriyama provided several insights into the DLC, such as the cute Moogle outfit that Yuffie wears to avoid being discovered while operating covertly in the city of Midgar.
That wasn’t the only intriguing tidbit Hamaguchi and Toriyama discussed in a new Square Enix blog post, as the directors also revealed that Yuffie will bump into the main party during the events of FF7R Episode INTERmission. “The new episode takes place at the same time that Cloud and company are continuing their fight in Midgar,” Hamaguchi explained. “Our goal was to present players with a story that leads up to Yuffie’s later encounter with Cloud and his group. In addition, the new episode was an opportunity to dig deeper into the lore of FINAL FANTASY VII.”
In the original mandatory part of the game, however, given the focus on Yuffie in the new DLC.
Naoki Hamaguchi’s description of Yuffie’s first encounter with Cloud and his party in FF7R EPISODE INTERmission is deliberately vague, but it seems to give the impression that it will only serve as a set-up to their later meeting in the forest rather than Yuffie formally ing the party. It’s possible that Yuffie only spots the group from a distance during her mission, or bumps into a party member who recognizes her later on when she meets the full group. In any case, FF7R EPISODE INTERmission will be adding some interesting wrinkles to Final Fantasy 7 Remake's iconic story when it launches alongside the PS5 Intergrade update on June 10.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade and the FF7R Episode INTERmission DLC will be available for PS5 on June 10, 2021.
