ending of FF7 Remake involved Cloud and his friends defeating the literal arbiters of fate, in order to break free from the events of the original timeline, which has already resulted in changes, including Aerith having her first-ever fight with Sephiroth, and Biggs surviving the attack on the Sector 7 Plate.
The fact that the story of FF7 Remake can go in new directions means that there are all kinds of interesting paths the story can take. There is already evidence of the story diverging wildly, thanks to a surprise cameo at the end of INTERmission. There is also the content from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII to consider, as characters from the other stories could be major players in the remakes. Nero and Weiss from Deepground already appeared in INTERmission, so there's nothing stopping them from being unleashed upon Sephiroth in future FF7 Remake games.
The death of Aerith in FF7 is one of the most memorable moments in the entire series. The early days of the Internet were filled with bogus rumors about how to bring her back, as fans desperately sought a way to save the flower girl from Midgar. The developers of FF7 Remake have the chance to put right what once went wrong and save Aerith's life, but what would that mean to the overall story of FF7 Remake, assuming the rest of the events played out in roughly the same way as the original timeline?
FF7 Remake's Version Of Aerith Is Still Needed In The Lifestream
The main ramification of Aerith surviving in FF7 Remake is that she's needed in the Lifestream. She managed to activate the White Materia before she died in FF7, but Sephiroth was able to stop Holy from activating. Holy didn't appear until Cloud and his friends entered the North Crater and defeated Sephiroth. Holy was cast, but it was too late, as Meteor was close to hitting the world. It was only due to the last-minute intervention of the Lifestream that Holy became strong enough to stop Meteor. The game was ambiguous about exactly what happened, but the Final Fantasy VII 10th Anniversary Ultimania guide (as translated by cure Geostigma in Advent Children, but only after Cloud defeats Sephiroth once more.
If Aerith is still alive when Meteor descends in FF7 Remake, then she's not going to be able to use the Lifestream to aid Holy, potentially dooming the world. This could lead to a situation where Aerith willingly goes to her death, knowing that it's necessary to stop Sephiroth. It's also possible that she is able to identify that Sephiroth needs to be stopped as soon as possible, in order for Holy to be cast before Meteor hits the world. It's unclear if this is even possible, as it took the power of Sister Ray to break the barrier around the North Crater, and it might be too late if Avalanche has to wait for the Shinra Corporation to use it.
The creators of Final Fantasy VII Remake have the chance to save Aerith's life, but doing so could doom the world. It's clear that Aerith knows more than she's letting on in the new timeline, so it's possible that she already has a plan to save the world this time around. It's also possible that she knows her death is inevitable and she just wants to spend as much time with the people she loves as she can.
