Final Fantasy 7 director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed that there's no DLC planned for the second part of the trilogy, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The first game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy introduced the "Episode INTERmission" DLC, which followed the energetic Wutai ninja, Yuffie. FF7 Rebirth, released this year, takes Cloud and his companions out of Midgar and into the great unknown of the outside world, leaving plenty of room for expanding the story, but it seems now that there will be no additional stories told from Rebirth, at least for the time being.

Speaking with Daily Star, Hamaguchi has confirmed that FF7 Rebirth will have no DLC, as the team focuses their work on the third and final game in the FF7 Remake series. On the other hand, Hamaguchi does have good news for fans who are eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series, stating that he wants Remake Part 3 to "come out as quickly as possible." Once the full three games are out, Hamaguchi wants to "move on maybe to look at some other stories, dig a bit deeper."

FF7 Remake Part 3 Will Take The Franchise To Exciting New Places

FF7 Rebirth Was A Crucial Moment For The Series

The first chapter in Final Fantasy 7 Remake was limited in scope, taking place entirely within the confines of Midgar. When development on that game was nearing completion, the team realized that they would have to completely shift the scope and gameplay of the series for the second chapter.

Naoki Hamaguchi: It became fairly clear that the story-driven style of Remake would be quite impossible to do again with the second game just because we have that whole world, the World Map going out into the wider environment.

The second game was a very important game to get right. If the game had done the same thing as the first chapter, it would set up player expectations for Part 3 following the same formula. By mixing things up, FF7 Remake Part 3 can take the series in any direction, and that's the level of excitement that Hamaguchi hopes to maintain, "which is why I very much felt we had to evolve it and expand it, and take it in new directions for Rebirth."

Our Take: A Faster FF7 Remake Part 3 Release Is Worth Giving Up DLC

We'd Rather The FF7 Team Focus On The Next Game

Not getting a DLC in return for having an earlier release date for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is a trade I'm willing to make. We've seen too many game developers in recent years try to do everything at once, and the result is that none of the things they create ends up being the best that it can be. I, for one, applaud Square Enix for knowing its limits and deciding to focus on one thing at a time instead of trying to do it all.

FF7 Remake Part 3 Should Make This Change I've Been Waiting 27 Years For

Final Fantasy 7 Remake hasn’t been afraid of making changes, and that’s why I hope to finally see one specific alliance in the last section.

By making the decision not to release any DLC for Rebirth, Square Enix has ensured that the third chapter will be the best version of itself. As the official announcement of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 draws near, players can rest assured that the team is working hard on making it a unique and fulfilling experience, with no distractions created by potential DLCs.
