There are seven weapons you can find for the new party member Red XIII in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth that give this warrior of Cosmo Canyon their best combat abilities. However, some tools are stronger than others, giving you skills to synergize with other characters. It can be difficult to determine which of these abilities has the strongest traits since Red XIII's playstyle is completely new to this game.

Red XIII functions as a defensive character with nimble movements and attacks that build up decent stagger on enemies. Similar to Cloud's best weapons in FF7 Rebirth, Red XIII's strongest tools help boost his strengths in combat, especially surrounding the unique Vengeance Mode mechanic. This meter gives extra properties to your strikes and can be charged by guarding, blocking, or Perfect Blocking an attack.

Vengeance Mode produces an extra claw swipe in the air to damage enemies or launch them into the air after your basic attack combos. Activating this mode also unlocks the Siphon Fang move, a powerful AoE move that knocks back foes and restores some of Red XIII's health.

Barret once again returns as a party member in FF7 Rebirth with his gun arm weapon that has several variations you can find for his best abilities.

7 Mythril Collar

Where To Get: Default Weapon in Chapter 2

Ability

Description

Proficiency Bonus

Stardust Ray

Unleash a devastating attack over a wide area. Costs 2 ATB.

Strike two or more enemies.

The Mythril Collar is perhaps the most straightforward weapon for Red XIII, giving him a large AoE strike that can damage multiple enemies at once. While it costs 2 ATB, the damage can easily take out small enemies as you try to level up fast in FF7 Rebirth during early Chapters. As you continue to fight larger bosses and other foes, this ability unfortunately does not remain as strong as other skills on this list.

6 Silver Collar

Where To Get: Achieve Rank III in Run Wild Free-For-All mini-game in Chapter 6

Ability

Description

Proficiency Bonus

Chilling Roar

Retaliate with ice shards whenever hit by an attack. Charges the Vengeance Gauge when a counterstrike lands.

Exploit an enemy's weakness.

The Chilling Roar ability provided by the Silver Collar is extremely similar to Cloud's Counterstance skill given from one of his weapons. However, this trait not only charges Red XIII's Vengeance Gauge but also inflicts Ice damage onto enemies that initiated the attack being countered. This could be a great way to build stagger on an enemy weak to this element for only a small cost of your ATB in FF7 Rebirth.

As you may see in a video by YouTube creator Oxford King that gives a detailed guide to Red XIII's combat, getting the Vengeance Gauge full is crucial for this character. This meter doesn't charge easily, with defensive techniques being hard to pull off against enemies with inconsistent attack patterns. Even with Chilling Roar, it will take some time to master the moves that best fill this unique resource.

5 Renegade's Collar

Where To Get: Lower Layer level of Mythril Mine in Chapter 3

FF7 Rebirth Renegade's Collar Red XIII weapon with stats and ability description

Ability

Description

Proficiency Bonus

Crescent Claw

Slash at a foe. Deplete the gauge while in Vengeance Mode to increase potency and range.

Finish off an enemy.

The ability from the Renegade's Collar weapon depends on how quickly you can enter Vengeance Mode with Red XIII. While this may be hard to accomplish on harder difficulties in FF7 Rebirth, Crescent Claw makes the effort worth it by dealing incredible damage to a target of your choice. This skill is strong against bosses, but it works well on weaker opponents even if you don't enter Vengeance.

4 Golden Collar

Where To Get: Coolant Control area of Gongaga Reactor in Chapter 9

FF7 Rebirth Red XIII Gold Collar weapon with stats and ability description

Ability

Description

Proficiency Bonus

Watcher's Respite

Deplete the Vengeance Gauge to heal allies. Potency proportional to amount expended.

Activate when the Vengeance Gauge is full.

Being able to heal allies is always important in frantic battles with your party, so the Golden Collar weapon for Red XIII has the perfect ability to your allies. Providing healing in exchange for Vengeance Gauge, you sacrifice Red XIII's singular boost in power to aid teammates. Doing this while Vengeance is full could greatly restore everyone's HP without taking as long as using Healing Materia.

FF7 Rebirth: Best Materias To Level Early

Setting Materia allows the use of spells in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth; knowing which are best to level early could make all the difference.

Potions and other healing items restore HP as well for the same amount of ATB as Watcher's Respite, so you may want to balance which source of healing your party uses. Relying too heavily on Red XIII's skill might prevent the character from ever entering Vengeance Mode in FF7 Rebirth. On the other hand, using too many healing items could rapidly cause you to spend Gil with vendors over and over to get more.

3 Brisingamen

Where To Get: Temple of the Ancients in Chapter 13

Ability

Description

Proficiency Bonus

Reaper Touch

Deliver a deadly strike. Potency is inversely proportional to current HP.

Activate when HP is critically low.

The last weapon Red XIII can get is Brisingamen, an item that lets the Cosmo Canyon warrior perform a powerful attack that becomes stronger as his health gets lower. This skill is risky to use since it works best when you are on your last legs in battle. However, those who have mastered the perfect timing with healing items could make this move appear just before Red XIII is healed by another party member.

The Temple of the Ancients can be a difficult area to navigate, so check out the above video by YouTube creator Backseat Guides for a visual guide on exactly where the purple chest containing this item is located!

2 Amethyst Collar

Where To Get: Old South Corel Mine in Chapter 7

FF7 Rebirth Amethyst Collar Red XIII weapon with stats and ability description

Ability

Description

Proficiency Bonus

Supernal Fervor

Grant Haste on all party . Can only be used during Vengeance Mode. Costs 2 ATB.

Activate on a three-person party.

Haste is a spell you can cast from an existing Materia in FF7 Rebirth, but the Amethyst Collar gives Red XIII a way to enact this powerful buff fast. Despite the restrictions that require you to be in Vengeance Mode and have full ATB, this is an ability you want to activate often. Generating more ATB is a feature that makes your party stronger by allowing them to pull off more moves, cast more spells, or use more items.

The speed to pull off more attacks with your party opens up opportunities for new strategies and better synergy between characters. Casting Haste from a Materia sometimes takes too long against faster enemies, so Red XIII having this skill cuts out what would ordinarily be a risk. The only reason this Collar is not the strongest for Red XIII is the hefty prerequisites for its ability you have to meet first.

1 Mystic Collar

Where To Get: Chamber of Folly in the Cave of the Gi in Chapter 10

FF7 Rebirth Mystic Collar Red XIII weapon with stats and ability description

Ability

Description

Proficiency Bonus

Watcher's Spirit

Deplete the Vengeance Gauge to increase allies' ATB. Potency proportional to amount expended.

Activate on a three-person party.

The strongest weapon for Red XIII is the Mystic Collar, which gives you the ability to deplete Vengeance in exchange for ATB for every character in your party. Once again, having more ATB will give you more options in combat as you gain the resources to pull off more moves. Every single character in FF7 Rebirth benefits from more ATB, so the sacrifice to Red XIII's Vengeance is a small price to pay.

The more Vengeance Gauge you spend, the higher the amount of ATB you grant to your allies in battle. Try to build as much Gauge as possible before spending it on Watcher's Spirit so that your party can fill out both bars of ATB almost immediately. The best weapon for Red XIII in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gives an even greater reward for utilizing this character's distinct combat mechanic than you would normally see.
