Final Fantasy 7's Aerith Gainsborough is one of the most iconic characters in a game that's filled to the brim with them, and a new cosplay could hardly be a more accurate interpretation of the character. FF7 has been a popular inspiration for cosplay for decades now, and the recent release of FF7 Rebirth has led to another surge in excellent fan projects. The detailed costumes of the remake trilogy provide a new standard to aspire to, and successfully translating the appearance of any character to real life is automatically memorable.

The stunning new Aerith cosplay comes courtesy of Reddit PaperClip2304, who posed with a basket of flowers in an urban environment that could conceivably for the slums of Midgar. The posted photo shows off her costume in detail, which recreates everything from the zippers on Aerith's red jacket to the surplus of straps on her boots.

What's especially impressive is that the cosplay is apparently self-made, which helps explain why the material quality stands out in a way that even great pre-made costumes often fail to match. This isn't the kind of cosplay that can just be thrown together, and the results speak to a level of dedication that properly befits the steadfast character.

FF7 Aerith Cosplay Is Iconic For A Reason

A Timeless Character Earns Her Fans

Although debates over whether Aerith or Tifa is the superior character will probably never end among FF7 fans, Aerith is undeniably great, quickly proving memorable in both the original game and later treatments thanks to her mix of kindness and spunk. She's first introduced as a flower seller in Midgar, and although she later proves capable of powerful magic and more, that side of her character is never fully lost. Aerith's character arc and the way it affects the rest of the party serves as a crucial underpinning of FF7's emotional impact.

A quote about Final Fantasy 7's Tifa Lockhart that's been accepted as fact for well over a decade might not be quite as accurate as it seems.

A look behind the scenes at how the cosplay was made can be found on the creator's Instagram , where she goes by the name pixelclip_. Two of the Story Highlights on the page go into depth on everything from laying out the patterns for the clothing to styling the wig, a process definitely worth checking out for those interested in cosplay. Some older images and a video also show off the Aerith cosplay, as well as a Tifa Lockhart one that's equally accurate to the character's depiction in FF7 Rebirth.

Although the remake trilogy will come to a close with the third game in a few more years, FF7's likely to stick around in pop culture for much longer thanks to its fans. PaperClip2304's Aerith's may not be the first great Aerith cosplay to be created, but it does stand out as one of the absolute best, and the dedication necessary to achieve that level of craft is part of what makes Final Fantasy 7 remain so special today.
