Keith Carradine's John Dorie Sr. will have a big role in Fear the Walking Dead focused on a family led by Kim Dickens' Madison Clark, while in later years the show has expanded to include many new characters.

John Dorie Sr. is one of those characters, as he was only introduced in Fear the Walking Dead season 6, which just concluded in June. Though he was mentioned by his son John (Garret Dillahunt) prior to his death, John Dorie Sr. didn't physically appear until only a few episodes before the finale. However, he's already factored into the show's story in a big way, connecting with his daughter-in-law June (Jenna Elfman) and revealing he previously hunted down Teddy Maddox, the doomsday cult leader. Despite his impact on season 6, it sounds like John Dorie Sr. will play an even bigger role in Fear the Walking Dead season 7 and beyond.

Co-showrunner Ian Goldberg discussed Carradine's character in an interview with Fear the Walking Dead going forward. Read Goldberg's comments via ComicBook below:

Without getting too far into where we're planning in season 7, he is going to play a major role in the show going forward. You see in the finale that he ends up in the bunker with June, the bunker that Teddy built for himself. He came a long way this season in of facing his past demons, his past ghosts, dealing with abandoning his son and then reconciling the death of his son and saying goodbye, and forgiving himself with June.

Goldberg also offered a tease of what viewers can expect as far as John Dorie Sr.'s story in season 7. He explained John will wrestle with the thought that it's

"now twice that he has not been able to stop Teddy from doing horrible things." It makes sense there's a lot more in store for Carradine's character in Fear the Walking Dead season 7. Though he's only appeared in a few episodes so far, John Dorie Sr. has already made quite the impression on viewers, and it certainly feels like there's more to unpack from his past. He also provides a much needed connection to his son, particularly in his scenes with June.

Outside of the show's story, it makes sense Goldberg and his team are eager to hang onto Carradine. He brings a lot of star power to the series thanks to his decades-long career in both TV and film. The actor was an exciting addition to Fear the Walking Dead season 6, and it sounds like he will continue to play an integral role on the show going forward.
