Netflix confirms that Fear Street 4, a sequel to their hit horror trilogy, is officially in development. Based on the books by R.L. Stine, the three films follow separate but connected stories concerning groups of teenagers who try to break a centuries-old curse looming over their town, with each part set during a different year – 1994, 1978, and 1666 respectively. The Fear Street trilogy was released on Netflix over three consecutive weeks in 2021 and received positive reviews from critics and strong viewership from audiences, opening the door for a potential continuation.

Now, during a recent interview with Fear Street Part 4 is officially in the works. Acknowledging that there are over 50 books in Stine's series, Stuber said they are working on adapting a "standalone" one into a script for a sequel that will act as an "extension" of the original trilogy. Read what he shared below:

Obviously, there’s a lot of books. There’s one stand-alone that we’re working on right now that we’re once again trying to get the script right, but I like it very much, and so does the team. So I feel like if we can get that script right there would be a great kind of extension of that franchise.

Fear street 1994 cast and character guide

There have been reports and talks of Fear Street Part 4 over the past few years, though this is the first official confirmation from Netflix that it is in active development. Back in July 2021, director Leigh Janiak expressed interest in returning and extending the Fear Street trilogy. Her idea for a fourth film was for it to take place during the 1950s and focus on Harry Rooker, aka The Milkman (Kevin Waterman), the slasher who appeared sparingly throughout the trilogy. Fear Street cast member Olivia Scott Welch also expressed interest in this idea.

However, it appears that Netflix may be interested in taking a different direction. It has been reported, though not confirmed, that Chloe Okuno will direct Fear Street 4. If true, she would be a great choice given her experience in the horror genre with V/H/S/94 and Watcher. It's unclear exactly what direction Netflix is taking with Fear Street 4, though given Stuber's description as a "standalone extension" of the franchise, it sounds like it will branch out from the original trilogy and allow entirely new characters to step into the spotlight.

The Fear Street trilogy is streaming on Netflix.
