Jesse Lee Soffer's new character as Wes Mitchell is revealed in a new disappointing ending to his time as Jay Halstead in Hank Voight's Intelligence. Given this, there's a lot of interest in how Wes will be different from his former Chicago-based character.

The video shows the crew of FBI: International season 4 checking out dailies from their filming session. One of the monitors features Soffer as Wes. It's only a glimpse, but it is enough to excite viewers for its stint as Fly Team's new leader on the heels of Scott's departure.

Halstead's Chicago PD Return Is Now Unlikely

Actors playing different roles isn't new to NBC and Wolf Entertainment's shared universe. However, this is the first time that someone is transitioning from playing a lead character to portraying an equally prominent one in a different show. Despite that, there seems to be excitement over Soffer moving to FBI: International, especially after the way he was written out of Chicago PD. While there was no off-screen drama that led to his departure, the way Halstead's exit played out effectively ruined his legacy in One Chicago, especially after Hailey Upton's subsequent departure.

While it isn't impossible to bring him back in Chicago PD season 13, there really is no narrative benefit for both shows to do so

Despite the rushed way Halstead was written out, the door remained open for Soffer to reprise his role in Chicago PD. The character even promised to come back to the Windy City after his supposed short stint in Bolivia. However, the actor's new role as the next face of FBI: International season 4 significantly decreases the chances of this ever happening. For starters, the FBI spinoff shoots on location, which makes it logistically impossible for Soffer to be involved in One Chicago. Secondly, Wolf Entertainment will want to establish Wes first, and returning as Halstead can distract from that.

Taking all of these into consideration, it's safe to say that Soffer's time as Halstead in One Chicago is effectively done. While it isn't impossible to bring him back in Chicago PD season 13, there really is no narrative benefit for both shows to do so. Moving forward, he will be Wes, Fly Team's new leader, in FBI: International.
