WARNING! SPOILERS ahead for FBI: International season 4, episode 16, "Little Angel." season 4, episode 16, titled "Little Angel," sets up an exciting new romance for Mitchell (Jesse Lee Soffer) as the series draws to a close — but this pairing seems to have developed out of thin air. FBI: International is arguably the best of the FBI shows because of its unique premise. It follow the elite Fly Team allowing the procedural to tell stories about crimes against American interests that take place in foreign countries, most often in Europe.

Sadly, the foreign-based procedural is one of several shows that CBS canceled in 2025 despite its strong ratings. The procedural has only a few episodes to wrap up all major storylines. I'm especially interested in what happens to newcomer Wes Mitchell, who only began leading the Fly Team in season 4 and who has had a difficult time adjusting to protocols for dealing with European police officers. "Little Angel" offers a partial answer, as analyst Amanda Tate offers Mitchell after he learns his ex-girlfriend, Ella, is lying and covering up conflicts of interest while working on a case together.

Mitchell Is Suddenly Partnered Up With Tate In FBI: International Season 4, Episode 16 (After Spending Time With Vo)

Tate Has His Back With Ella's Lies

Ella's return in "Little Angel" is intended to end that relationship, leaving Mitchell free to start something new. He and Ella broke up in the beginning of FBI: International season 4 when Mitchell decided to stay in Budapest rather than return to the States after the capture of the man who had killed his work partner in Los Angeles. It wouldn't have made sense for Ella to re-emerge now unless FBI: International wanted to resolve her and Mitchell's relationship, so I wasn't surprised that Tate quickly learned that Ella had a financial stake in the case.

Tate mostly works with computers, so it was equally unsurprising that she was the one to get the hidden records that prove Ella's deception or that she ed the intel to Mitchell. The Fly Team is supposedly working with Ella to protect a cryptocurrency CEO and his family, so Mitchell needs to know that his ex is engaged in questionable behavior. However, this episode marks the first time that Mitchell works closely with Tate instead of focusing exclusively on his relationship with Vo. Up until this point, it seemed like all signs pointed to Vo and Mitchell being endgame.

Why Tate Is A Better Romantic Partner For Mitchell Than Vo

They Have A Less Complicated Relationship History

In many ways, Mitchell and Vo made sense. Their relationship followed a familiar pattern in which Vo was initially Mitchell's trainee but is now his right-hand woman, who was the only one who could convince him to step back when he was about to cross a line. Although the two had once been mentor and student, they were now equals, so they seemed destined to fit into the usual relationship trope between partners in police procedurals.

Tate is first getting to know Mitchell, so she won't get upset about him not fitting into her preconceived expectations based on the past.

That said, Tate is a better match for Mitchell than Vo because they don't have that history. Mitchell and Vo's former training relationship has allowed them to get to know each other very well, but this means they have expectations for each other's behavior that Tate and Mitchell don't have. Tate is first getting to know Mitchell, so she won't get upset about him not fitting into her preconceived expectations based on the past. Thus, Tate is the best match for Mitchell as FBI: International moves toward its final wrap-up.
