Summary

  • Jesse Lee Soffer's new role as Lee Mitchell in FBI: International is a step up from his previous role in Chicago PD.
  • Mitchell leads the Fly Team in the FBI unit and has a charming, rakish, and justice-driven personality.
  • Soffer's character in FBI: International provides him the opportunity to portray a team leader, a role he never had in Chicago PD.

Jesse Lee Soffer is jumping from one police procedural to another as he is set to the main cast of One Chicago TV show from its very beginning. Halstead was first introduced in Chicago Fire, though, as an undercover cop dating Gabby Dawson before he transferred to the Intelligence Unit, where he had been working for about a month when the Chicago PD pilot aired.

Over the course of 10 seasons, Halstead stuck with Hank Voight and the morally ambiguous Intelligence Unit until he couldn't take it anymore. Halstead exited Chicago PD at the beginning of season 10 when he accidentally killed a man and consequently turned in his badge. Although Voight and Halstead's wife Hailey Upton helped him devise a cover story, Halstead couldn't live with the guilt and needed a change. So, Halstead re-enlisted in the Army, which sent him overseas to Bolivia, where he would track down drug cartels. Now, Soffer has moved on to FBI: International on CBS.

Soffer's Mitchell Is A Lead In FBI: International; Halstead Was Never In Chicago PD

Soffer's FBI: International Role Is A Step Up From Chicago PD

According to the cast of FBI: International season 4. Mitchell is the new leader of the Fly Team (an FBI unit based in Budapest that tracks down international threats to the United States) in the CBS police procedural series. Soffer's character's description reveals he is "charming," "rakish," and driven by his desire for justice. Mitchell also has great instincts and unorthodox methods while on the job. While some of these traits could also apply to Halstead in Chicago PD, Soffer's FBI: International character differs from Halstead in one major way.

[Hank] Voight was always in charge, meaning [Chicago PD] missed the opportunity to see [Jesse Lee] Soffer play a leader.

Soffer is finally able to play a character that leads a team, as Halstead was never the head of the Intelligence Unit in Chicago PD. Voight was always in charge, meaning the NBC show missed the opportunity to see Soffer play a leader. That will all change, though, when Soffer's FBI: International character is introduced during the season 4 premiere. Mitchell is the new boss in the CBS series, and it will be interesting to see how Soffer performs in a leadership role.
