The primary saga within the F9, but due to coronavirus-related delays, the next installment will premiere in May 2021. There was an early belief that the forthcoming tenth film would mark the end of the saga, but instead, Universal will split the concluding chapter into two films. That, however, won't be the end of the Fast & Furious universe.

When the series started with Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), a man that served as a valuable piece of the team.

Based on the scene-stealing ability of characters like Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, Universal decided to reunite the arch-enemies for the saga's first spinoff, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Rather than pin them against each other, the unlikely pair were forced to team up with Shaw's younger sister to take down a cybernetically-enhanced terrorist played by Idris Elba. Based on the success of the movie, the studio revealed that other spinoff ideas were in development, including a Hobbs & Shaw sequel and a female-led film featuring notable franchise characters. With the news of the main saga ending in the near future, some fans might wonder how it will affect the spinoffs in development. Thankfully, the conclusion of Dom's journey won't impact the spinoffs. In fact, it could have a positive push in the development of other franchise areas.

The Fast Saga Ending Could Be Good For The Spinoffs

By setting an official end date for the original Fast & Furious series, the studio could put its energy into developing a proper ending. When those movies come to an end, Universal will have the chance to switch their focus in creating new stories set in the fictional universe. Rather than worry about continuity, Fast & Furious spinoffs have the chance to explore new aspects or further develop characters outside of the main story. Hobbs & Shaw has enough appeal to turn into another saga on its own but there could also be side stories following compelling characters like Tej (Ludacris), Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Ramsay (Nathalie Emmanuel), Han (Sung Kang), or Victor Locke (Ryan Reynolds).

With creative freedom, the Fast & Furious series also has the ability to expand their TV programming. So far, Netflix has developed Fast & Furious Spy Racers, an animated series that follows Dom's younger cousin, Tony Toretto. A second season set in Rio de Janeiro released in October 2020, but the future of the series remains unclear. If Netflix doesn't elect to continue the show, Universal has plenty of power to develop live-action shows that could serve as spinoff material. Even with an end in sight for the original journey, Fast & Furious won't completely be calling it quits with a future for Hobbs & Shaw and beyond.
