Given they have been the two lead characters throughout Fast & Furious' lack of unique character interactions proved problematic.

Rather than experimenting with potentially odd pairings, the franchise frequently played it safe, keeping Brian and Dom together, or with their significant others. Likewise, Tej and Roman mainly teamed with one another, while Han and Gisele were a common duo, meaning the group only had truly fresh interactions when they were together. As a result, one pair who proved they were more than capable of stealing the limelight barely shared the screen after leading a project together, and with Fast & Furious 11 being the final movie in the main franchise, it's a reminder of how much they were wasted.

Brian & Roman Was An Underrated Fast & Furious Pairing

The Duo Proved To Have Great Chemistry In 2 Fast 2 Furious

Despite Brian and Dom still being an excellent duo, Paul Walker's best on-screen partner was always Tyrese Gibson's Roman Pearce. Vin Diesel holds the record for most consecutive F&F appearances, but the one mainline movie he missed introduced Roman to the franchise, and his chemistry with Walker's Brian O'Conner was undeniable. Considering their very first scene started with a confrontation, their back-and-forth exchanges alongside their competitive energy felt all the more organic, making for great entertainment. Establishing their history also prevented the pair's strong friendship from feeling out of the blue, which was key to ensuring their dynamic worked.

Fast & Furious 11 will be the final main Fast & Furious movie and is set to be released in 2026.

Both characters share a ion for cars, and despite Brian being an ex-cop, they also embrace the outlaw lifestyle. Even their like-minded nature allowed them to pull off crazy stunts like jumping their car onto a boat, proving how well they worked as a unit. Some of their dialog may have been a little cheesy and the movie does feel slightly dated, but that remains part of 2 Fast 2 Furious' charm, and had it not been for Roman and Brian's hilarious time in the spotlight together, Fast & Furious might never have become a box office sensation.

Brian & Roman Never Got To Be A Duo Again After 2 Fast & Furious

Their Interactions After The Second Film Were Always In A Group Format

Unfortunately, the huge change in direction for the franchise meant 2 Fast 2 Furious was the only real time Brian and Roman got to be a duo. Naturally, they were in scenes together further down the line, but these were usually as part of a larger group where they never got to rediscover their previous dynamic. Although neither was part of Tokyo Drift, Brian returned in 2009's Fast & Furious, while Roman made his comeback in Fast Five, but it's clear the saga had moved on from their goofy adventure in Miami, and they each found new partners.

While Roman's comedic side has worked well alongside Tej for many years, it's still sad to see he never got another real chance to cruise with Brian, who continued his protagonist duties alongside Dom. Sadly, Paul Walker's death in 2013 denied the duo a chance to really shine side-by-side, making 2 Fast 2 Furious their only proper outing as a team. Both characters were still part of Fast & Furious' best stunts and proved pivotal to the franchise's success, but it remains a big disappointment that the series didn't pair them together more often given their perfect chemistry.

2 Fast 2 Furious Had The Best Version Of Roman In The Franchise

Roman Was Better When He Still Had A More Serious Side

Tyrese Gibson has undoubtedly nailed his transition into a comic relief character within the Fast & Furious franchise, but 2 Fast 2 Furious provided the best version of Roman. Alongside bringing plenty of entertainment and humor, Roman felt a little more grounded in the saga's second film and had a slightly more serious side. His introduction showed he had a real grudge against cops and wasn't afraid to throw hands with Brian simply for ing the police, yet that bravado seemed to leave him in the later films, which was traded for overconfidence.

Watching Roman's huge ego contrast with his often-scared demeanor throughout missions still gives plenty of viewers a kick, but it would arguably be even funnier if there were still shades of his earlier portrayal present.

Watching Roman's huge ego contrast with his often-scared demeanor throughout missions still gives plenty of viewers a kick, but it would arguably be even funnier if there were still shades of his earlier portrayal present. 2 Fast 2 Furious conveyed him as a plucky underdog with a good sense of humor, yet he was still a hardened outlaw from the streets who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Now, Fast & Furious prefers him to be more of an outspoken loudmouth with a heart of gold, and while both iterations are great, his serious side is sorely missed.
