The delay the latest installment of the Fast Saga by an entire year due to coronavirus. The delay comes after a marketing campaign already began that teased the next adventure of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his crew.

As the franchise has continued to evolve into an ensemble production, Fast & Furious 9 is bringing back most of the main players to fight Dom's brother, Jakob (John Cena). The returning cast of characters includes Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez), Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson), Tej Parker (Ludacris), Mia Toretto (Jordana Brewster), and Ramsey (Nathalie Emmanuel), who will all help Dom once again. Meanwhile, it's also been revealed that the villainous Cipher (Charlize Theron) is back and helping Jakob, but the marketing for F9 has also confirmed some surprise returns.

The biggest surprise is two other characters from Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift who will appear. We've even seen that Magdalene Shaw (Helen Mirren) is back for F9. With so many of the franchise's biggest characters back together again, it might seem like Fast & Furious 9 has the entire gang assembled. But, here are the biggest characters from the franchise who are NOT returning for Fast & Furious 9.

Luke Hobbs

Dwayne Johnson in Hobbs and Shaw

The most notable Fast & Furious character who isn't returning in F9 is Dwayne Johnson's Luke Hobbs. He appeared in the last four main entries in the franchise and most recently starred in his spinoff film confirmed is in development. But, those holding out hope that he and Dom will cross paths again could get their wish eventually.

Deckard Shaw

A former villain in the Fast & Furious franchise, Jason Statham is The Fate of the Furious and re-teamed with Hobbs for Hobbs & Shaw. Since he is the reason the #JusticeForHan movement began, his absence from F9 means the franchise could bring Han and Deckard face-to-face down the line.

Owen Shaw

Deckard's brother, Owen Shaw (Luke Evans), is also not expected to be seen in Fast & Furious 9. Owen made his franchise debut in Fast & Furious 6, but the events of the film left him in a coma. It wasn't until his surprise appearance in The Fate of the Furious that fans found out what had happened to Owen, as he returned to help Deckard save Dom's baby. There has been no indication that Owen is returning in F9, and his future with the franchise might instead be with the Hobbs & Shaw spinoffs.

Hattie Shaw

Another Shaw sibling, Hattie Shaw (Vanessa Kirby) has not been linked to Fast & Furious 9 either. One of the newest additions to the franchise, Hattie debuted in Hobbs & Shaw in 2019. She immediately became a fan-favorite character, but it doesn't appear that she'll surprise fans with a quick return in F9. That said, with her mother having a role in the film, there's a small chance that the unexpected could come to . Hattie will likely make her next appearance in Hobbs & Shaw 2 instead.

Mr. Nobody

Kurt Russell Mr Nobody Fate of the Furious

Kurt Russell's Mr. Nobody is unlikely to appear in F9 too. The mysterious government agent first recruited Dom and his team to work for him in Russell told Screen Rant in 2017 he was open to coming back. Since Jakob vs Dom is a more personal story, perhaps there is just no need for Mr. Nobody and his government connections.

Little Nobody

Scott Eastwood in The Fate of the Furious

Without Mr. Nobody, it also doesn't appear that Little Nobody (Scott Eastwood) will return in Fast & Furious 9 either. Little Nobody debuted as Mr. Nobody's right-hand guy in The Fate of the Furious. He was a bit more antagonistic to the main crew since he likes to follow the rules and Dom's team does not. However, Little Nobody eventually learned to let them do their own thing instead of trying to control them. Despite this better understanding of one another, Little Nobody isn't expected to appear in F9.

Monica Fuentes

Eva Mendes holds a pager in Fast and Furious

Eva Mendes' Letty was still alive after her apparent death in the fourth installment. This helped set up the story for Fast & Furious 6, but Mendes didn't appear at any point in that movie. She hasn't been part of the franchise in nearly a decade now, and it doesn't appear that this will change with F9.

Twinkie

Twnkie offers Sean the chance to ride in Fast & Furious

With so many callbacks to Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift, the biggest character from the film that isn't returning for Fast & Furious 9 is Twinkie (Bow Wow). The trailer for F9 revealed that Lucas Black is back as Sean Boswell, Jason Tobin is returning as Earl, and confirmed Han's return, too. Twinkie used to be a member of Han's crew and helped introduce Sean to the drifting scene in Tokyo. Since so many other characters from this chapter in the Fast Saga are returning, Twinkie could've been a natural fit to appear. But, there has been no indication that Bow Wow is coming back for F9.
