The Fast & Furious 9 is already filming, it seems like new cast are being added with each ing day. So who exactly is in the cast of Fast & Furious 9?
The cast is just about the only concrete detail we know about the forthcoming Fast & Furious film, aside from the fact it will be directed by Fast & Furious veteran Justin Lin. Details on the story, the new characters, the film's villain, and even what kinds of stunts (a big feature of the franchise in recent years) will be included are being kept under wraps at this point. However, one of the few things that is known is the Fast & Furious 9 cast.
While Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, there are plenty of people on the lineup. Here are the essential cast reprising their Fast & Furious franchise characters in Fast & Furious 9 as well as the newcomers who will be ing them.
Vin Diesel
There's no franchise without Vin Diesel, who will be leading the charge in Fast & Furious 9 as Dominic Toretto. Dom has been through quite a lot of the course of this franchise, going from a small-time criminal to working for the Feds, to being an outlaw to turning on his crew. Through it all, Dom has always been a man of principles, where his family comes first and he'll always try to do what's right. Dom's been tested over the years but chances are good Fast & Furious 9 will test him in ways he's never experienced before.
Michelle Rodriguez
Returning as Letty Ortiz is The Fate of the Furious putting her through the wringer as she watched Dom, her beloved, turn on her and the rest of the family under duress from Cipher (Charlize Theron). Letty stepped up to lead the team in order to get Dom back and was able to reconcile with him as the end of the movie, even when it was revealed he'd had a child with Elena (Elsa Pataky). How things ended between Dom and Letty will no doubt figure into Fast & Furious 9 as the couple decides their next step while leading the team in another mission.
Jordana Brewster
Jordana Brewster will be back as Mia O'Conner (née Toretto). Mia's journey through the Fast & Furious franchise has been full of highs and lows. Mia began her time in the franchise helping her older brother, Dom, run the Toretto family's grocery store and car garage in Echo Park, California. Mia and Brian meet while Brian is working undercover in the first Fast & Furious film. Her primary arc throughout the franchise has been as a love interest to Brian and she rarely sees action in the film.
In the eighth movie, Mia and Brian (the late Paul Walker) are married and raising their family. In the wake of Walker's untimely death in 2013, the franchise has only included Mia by mentioning her in conversation and keeping her off-screen because it's the logical move to explain why Brian can't also be involved in the film. Mia will likely appear briefly in a scene where the team is back in Los Angeles but it's entirely possible she will be included in more of the action, too.
Chris "Ludacris" Bridges
Ludacris (also credited by his given name, Chris Bridges) will return to Fast & Furious 9 in the role of Tej. Tej has been around since the earliest Fast & Furious years when he first appears in 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious. Tej has evolved throughout the course of the franchise, beginning as a street racer and gradually moving into the role of mechanics and tech specialist. He's become an invaluable asset to the team over the years, growing even strong with Ramsey's technical assistance.
Tyrese Gibson
What would a Fast & Furious film be without Tyrese Gibson? Gibson likely moved right from filming Jared Leto-led Morbius to filming Fast & Furious 9, where he'll reprise his role as Roman. Roman is the comedic relief of the group, a total knucklehead who knows how to drive. Roman's driving skills have often gotten him involved in some unusual situations but he's always been ive to Dom and the other rest of the Toretto crew. The last time we saw Roman, it was in the eighth Fast & Furious film and he was helping the rest of the crew stop Dom from working with Cipher and hurt his friends in the process.
Nathalie Emmanuel
Now that Furious 7. Ramsey is one of the best hackers in the world, capable of breaking in anywhere and getting any team member out a technological bind. She is also the creator of the God's Eye software which allows any person to track another person through any electronic device anywhere in the world. Ramsey's skills, alongside Tej's, will no doubt come in handy for whatever adventure awaits.
Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron will reprise her Fate of the Furious role as Cipher. Diesel announced Theron's return to Fast & Furious 9 in an Instagram video in July 2019. Diesel didn't share why Theron's Cipher is returning to the film nor how long Theron will be on-set filming (which would indicate how big her role is).
The last time we saw Cipher, she was the villain of The Fate of the Furious. In that film, Cipher was responsible for luring Dom away from his crew, turning him against them so she could exploit his skills for her own purposes. Cipher managed to evade capture at the end of the film, with Mr. Nobody (Kurt Russell) telling the team she was last seen in Athens, Greece. Considering Dom and the crew like to travel, it's possible they might all make a pit stop in Athens for Cipher's expertise. There's also the distinct possibility she is the film's villain and is back to her criminal ways. However, the franchise is not one to recycle villains (the Shaw brothers are as close as Fast & Furious has gotten to that), so chances are Cipher will be an ally to some degree. Furthermore, there are reports a Cipher Fast & Furious spinoff is being explored, so keep an eye for any possible ties to a new story for this character.
Helen Mirren
In July, Helen Mirren's return as Magdalene Shaw was confirmed in an Instagram video posted by Diesel. Magadelene is the mother of the Shaw siblings, Deckard (Jason Statham), Owen (Luke Evans), and Hattie (Vanessa Kirby). The Shaw matriarch has only been featured briefly in previous Fast & Furious film The Fate of the Furious and was put in an advisory role to the film's main characters.
Mirren's Magdalene is (as far as we know) the only connection between Fast & Furious 9 and Hobbs & Shaw. It's unclear if Magdalene will be in Fast & Furious 9 in connection to the events of Hobbs and Shaw or if she's being included in the film for another reason. One Hobbs & Shaw trailer did reveal Magdelene is currently incarcerated, which means she'll at least be on hand to provide some helpful words to Dom and the crew. Hopefully, she has a bigger role this time around.
Lucas Black
It's rumored Lucas Black, who played Sean Boswell in The Fast & the Furious: Tokyo Drift, will return for the ninth film. Thanks to his starring role in Tokyo Drift, Black has been a part of the Fast & Furious franchise since 2006. In Tokyo Drift, Sean is a teenager shipped overseas to live with his father in Japan after he's arrested for drag racing. Sean has a tough time adjusting to life in Tokyo until the only other American at his school, Twinkie (Shad Moss), introduces him to the underground racing scene.
Black hasn't been seen much since Tokyo Drift despite reports from 2013 he would appearing in Fast & Furious films 7, 8, and 9. Things didn't go according to plan and Black has only shown up in Fast & Furious 7. In the seventh film, he appeared briefly to speak with Dom about Han, as Dom searched for answers about Deckard's involvement in Han's death. With no clues as to the plot of Fast & Furious 9, it's unclear how Black will figure into things since his character has been on the fringes for years.
