It makes sense that the the cast of the Fast & Furious movies themselves, with many "hero" cars having enough personality to be just as recognizable as the stars that drive them. It's difficult to pick out just one favorite from each movie, but there's an undeniable pecking order to the varied cast of cars populating them.
Just like how the Fast and Furious movies themselves have a clear hierarchy of quality, the iconic cars of the series have their own standouts. Whether it be due to their gorgeous looks, sheer power and performance in real life, or their level of icon status proportional to the film they represent, a single car from each film can stand out as especially representative of that entry in the franchise. It might be comparing apples to oranges in some cases, but most Fast and Furious films have a clear winner.
10 1994 Toyota Supra MkIV
The Fast and the Furious
Starting way back with the inception of the towering action movie franchise with The Fast and the Furious, the series had yet to morph into an almost superhero-esque espionage series with bigger and bigger action setpieces. Instead, the early films were still relatively grounded and very much about grand theft auto rather than grand conspiracies. Without a doubt, the icon of the first movie and one of the most recognizable cars in the franchise is Brian's 1994 Toyota Supra MkIV.
This car holds some emotional significance as the vehicle Dom's crew assembles for Brian, proving to him the power of family Dom is always going on about. With its striking orange color palette, 320 horses, and lovingly-grafted bodywork, the Supra has become a symbol of the Fast and Furious franchise. Not only that, but the car also serves as a powerful enduring memory of Paul Walker thanks to its association with his character.
9 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34
2 Fast 2 Furious
It says a lot about Brion O'Connor's taste in cars that his personal vehicles make up the first two coolest rides in the entire franchise. In 2 Fast 2 Furious, O'Connor takes the time to step out of his beloved orange Supra and into a 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34. The car has something of a cult following, both among fans of the franchise and in real life, and from its striking profile alone, it's easy to see why.
The blue-and-silver Japanese import is far more than a pretty face, however. With a 2.6-litre twin-turbo engine, and all-wheel drive for aggressively gripping the tarmac for some unbelievable evasive maneuvers, the Skyline GT-R is the epitome of agility and aggressive style. Compared to the competition of 2 Fast 2 Furious, the plucky Skyline easily leaves them all in the dust.
8 1997 Mazda RX-7 VeilSide Fortune
The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift
Comparatively, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift might have some of the fiercest competition of any Fast and Furious movie. The film more than makes up for the fact that it challenges the chronology of the Fast and Furious timeline with a jaw-dropping collection of cars, from the exclusive 2001 Nissan Silvia S15 Spec-S “Mona Lisa” to the classic 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, it's difficult to pick out just one favorite in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
But nothing quite steals the show like the 1997 Mazda RX-7 VeilSide Fortune. A veritable JDM icon modified so heavily that it's practically an entirely different model, this RX-7 performs some of the most breathtaking stunts in the entire Fast and Furious franchise. It's no wonder that Han became a fan favorite behind the wheel of this beauty, and while Han's popularity may have resurrected him, it's a crying shame that this emblematic masterpiece of Tokyo drifting culture couldn't come back, too.
7 1970 Dodge Charger R/T
Fast & Furious
Considering how iconic it is to the Fast and Furious series, it's surprising that Dom's 1970 Dodge Charger R/T isn't the best car in a movie until the fourth entry in the franchise. While fierce competition may squeeze out the muscle car from being the best featured vehicle of any previous film, in Fast & Furious, it's the star of the show.
From its imposing wide frame to the ferocious growl of its supercharged Chrysler 426 hemi V8, strong enough to make the car do a wheelie like a motorcycle, to say Dom's prized Charger is a powerful image is an understatement. The car also has some emotional significance to the plot of Fast & Furious specifically, representing Dom's inner rage, first left to him as a memento from his father. It's fitting that he weaponizes this vehicle, which somehow survives an explosion without a scratch, after another member of his "family" is "killed".
6 2010 Dodge Charger SRT-8 Vault Cars
Fast Five
Fast Five is arguably when the Fast and Furious franchise stopped being about small-time criminals and started being traditional action blockbusters, complete with absurd action setpieces weaponizing the power of automobiles. The roster of cars in Fast Five represents this with all sorts of over-the-top specialized vehicles, such as armored military carriers like the Gurkha LAPV. The 2010 Dodge Charger SRT-8 maintains this trend while still remaining an impressive realistic showpiece.
These "vault cars" are best known for the sequence in which they literally drag a massive vault down the highway in one of the series' most audacious heists yet. While the in-universe specifications of these modified police cars aren't given, as doing so would hold them to a realistic standard that could supposedly swing the chained vault like a flail,, it's safe to say they're some of the most powerful engines Dom's crew has ever worked with. With their matte black finish and aggressive use of nitrous, this pair of cars make a lasting impression.
5 The Flip Cars
Fast & Furious 6
By Fast & Furious 6, the franchise had already moved on from heavily modifying existing cars to create unique masterpieces to straight-up cobbling together custom vehicles. Despite existing alongside such beauties as Shaw's Aston Martin DB9 (calling to mind the 007 films) to a new Nissan R35 piloted by Brian, the "Flip Cars" stand out as the coolest vehicles in Fast & Furious 6. Looking like low-slung Formula 1 racers with skeletal frames harshly melded together, the Flip Cars are more cool than beautiful.
Cobbled together by the mad scientist Firuz, the Q to Shaw's James Bond, these cars have custom suspension, a unique rear-wheel drive, and a V-drive transmission system derived from a speedboat. True to their name, these Frankensteined monsters are capable of wedging themselves underneath other cars with their terrifying cow-catches and flipping them overhead, something the producers actually accomplished practically during filming. They may be an unorthodox pick, but the unique vehicles are the star of Fast & Furious 6.
4 2014 W Motors Lykan Hypersport
Furious 7
By Furious 7, the Fast and Furious series needed to stay on the cutting edge of automotive innovation, and scrapmetal cars custom-built for vehicular combat couldn't continue to carry the series. Enter the 2014 W Motors Lykan Hypersport, a souped-up supercar unlike anything the franchise had seen before. One of the most exclusive and expensive cars in the world, right down to its diamond-encrusted headlights, the Lykan Hypersport is an elite class of sports car.
That only makes it all the more hilarius that Dom piledrives the exquisite creation through three Abu Dhabi skyscrapers with reckless abandon. But with its 3.7-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine that produces 780 horsepower, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in around 2.8 seconds, the Hypersport is easily one of the fastest cars in the Fast and Furious series by a wide margin. This achievement alone justifies the vehicle's outrageous pricetag.
3 1968 Dodge Charger R/T “Ice Charger”
The Fate of the Furious
The Fast and Furious series sure does love its Dodge Chargers, and the films put forth yet another take on the iconic lineage in The Fate of the Furious with the special 1968 R/T "Ice Charger". In the eighth Fast and Furious film, Dom takes on one of his most ridiculous heists yet when he attempts to break into a nuclear submarine lurking beneath a sheet of ice. To catch up with the naval powerhouse, he employs the custom 1968 Charger as the series' coolest can-opener yet.
Designed to fly across the perilous ice, giving the car its nickname, the special '68 Charger is reinforced with steel-framed windows that compliment its gorgeous gunmetal grey color scheme. In addition to the absurdly-powerful rear-mounted engine used to keep speed with a nuclear vessel, the car also housed a powerful EMP capable of wreaking havoc on targeted electronics. It's a shame this car had to go down with the ship when the submarine eventually explodes.
2 1968 Dodge Charger R/T
F9
Another '68 Charger replaces the Ice Charger in F9, also easily the coolest car in the film it's introduced in. Like its predecessor, this unique model bucks convention by featuring a mid-mounted engine rather than the typical front-mounted Hellcat powerhouse of a muscle car. This model also further differentiates itself with a lowered profile and retractable headlights that leave a memorable impression on audiences.
It's great to see how Dom Toretto's character arc is reflected in his various choices of Charger, evolving to suit his needs in a given film. Unique creations like the Ice Charger and F9 mid-engined Charger are specialized enough to carry the action side of things while still staying true to the series' roots as a relatively grounded group of motorized heist films. A supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine never hurts, either. Honorable mention for F9 goes to Han's gorgeous orange A90 Supra.
1 1971 Alfa Romeo 2000GT
Fast X
Speaking of Han, the character's massive comeback into the Fast and Furious series has seen him enjoy some of the coolest cars available. Fast X features some tough competition, from Dom's unique 2022 Dodge Charger Daytona SRT EV to the one and only DeLorean of Back to the Future fame. But nothing stands out quite like Han's gorgeous 1971 Alfa Romeo 2000GT, done up in the character's signature orange color scheme.
Proving that raw power isn't everything, Han makes the point that while the Alfa Romeo might not have the most impressive motor around, its agility is perfect for maneuvering the tight corners of its native Roman streets. Sure enough, Han makes Tej eat his words when he uses the car to prevent a bomb from going off in the middle of the city. It says a lot that Han's actor, Sun Kang, actually bought one after finishing filming. Few other cars can get a recommendation from the Fast and Furious cast like that.
