- The phone number Easter egg demonstrates the creators' ion for Fallout, blending humor and horror effectively.
Cooper Howard did a commercial for Vault-Tec in the the twisted Vault 4. While that ad served as a great insight into the pre-war company, it also presented a frightening Easter egg.
Fallout has always been a decidedly dark franchise, as it deals with stories about the end of the world. Even with such grim subject matter, though, the franchise has always had fun and been able to inject humor into the wasteland. That trend holds true for the Fallout show, and the Easter egg hidden in Cooper's commercial is one of the best examples of how the show maintains the humor and horror of the games. It even took the classic dark humor to the next level, and brought it into the real world.

The Phone Number In Cooper’s Vault-Tec Commercial Is Real - And It Plays Screaming Sounds
The number can also be texted for a less frightening message
According to IGN, the phone number featured at the bottom of the Vault-Tec commercial is real, and viewers who call or text will actually get an answer. Calling the number, (213) 258-2858, will be answered by the sounds of a screaming person, and, as a TikTok from interdimensionalcable_ shows, the screams are quite loud.
It's not clear why the recorded message is of a screaming person, other than as a general reference to the apocalypse that destroyed the United States in Fallout. Since the screams are so loud, viewers can also text the same number. Texts are responded to with a message that reads "Thank you for texting Vault-Tec. The next available appointment is 33 weeks from now, please stand by!" and an invitation to receive additional marketing texts. Accepting the marketing invitation spurs another message, which reads "Congratulations! We may or may not be in touch if an appointment becomes available."
Fallout’s Phone Number Easter Egg Is Its Most Creative
It brings the show into the real world in a unique way
The Fallout show is filled with references to the games, but the phone number Easter egg stands out among the rest. That Easter egg shows just how dedicated Fallout's creators are, and how much attention to detail they had while making the show. The phone number was only seen on screen for less than 20 seconds, yet there's an entire phone line and messaging service dedicated to it. The Easter egg also sets itself apart by being part of the real world and being so hidden that there was a chance no one would even find it.
The phone number also proves how much ion the show's creators have for the Fallout franchise, and how well they understand it. Having a phone number that is dedicated solely to playing the sounds of a screaming man is exactly the kind of horror and humor the games are known for. The entire Easter egg reads like a love letter to fans who can't get enough, which makes it one of the best in Fallout.
