"The Silver Shroud" is a popular side quest in Fallout 4 that begins in Goodneighbor, wherein players meet the optimistic ghoul Kent Connolly, who runs Silver Shroud Radio. The Silver Shroud was a pre-war radio serial about a masked hero whom Kent looks up to and whom the Sole Survivor can dress up as. You get the Silver Shroud armor as part of the quest. This adventure soon turns deadly when Kent is kidnapped by raiders led by the raider boss, Sinjin.

Sinjin directs the Silver Shroud to save Kent at Milton General Hospital, a multi-level building full of traps and raiders. Despite the best efforts of many players, Kent frequently ends up dead by the end of this quest. If you want Kent to leave the hospital alive, you'll need to be quick and careful with how you approach Sinjin and his raiders.

Fallout 4 has tons of places to explore and side quests to keep players busy, and some of them can end up being truly bizarre experiences.

How To Pacify The Raiders

One of the best ways to ensure Kent survives his encounter with Sinjin is via the Intimidation Perk. With this perk, when you point your gun at an enemy like a raider, you can pacify them or, at higher levels, turn them against their allies. Cheng Teoh on YouTube demonstrates how to use this perk with lethal effectiveness. It's all about targeting the right goons in the right order before you leave the final elevator.

This trick, and many of the other players have found to save Kent, works best if you have a sniper build in Fallout 4 or at least a good sniper rifle with a scope.

When the elevator opens into the room with Kent and Sinjin, rather than stepping out and triggering the conversation with Sinjin, immediately point your gun at the raider on the far left and pacify them. Wait a few seconds before pacifying the far right raider, whom Cheng Teoh notes is hard to win over. Then, you can pacify the raider next to Sinjin, leaving you with just the big boss himself.

Rather than trying to pacify Sinjin, take some Jet or Buffjet to give yourself extra time before the raider boss blows Kent's head off. With time slowed down, you don't have to leave the elevator. Use your sniper rifle and fire a few focused shots into Sinjin's head.

If you enter the scene with a full Critical Hit Meter, you'll have a better chance of killing Sinjin before he can kill Kent. This technique depends on you reacting fast enough upon the elevator doors opening and not triggering Sinjin's dialogue.

How To Impersonate The Silver Shroud

A player character in Fallout 4 wearing the Silver Shroud costume, black and silver trench coat and fedora, while holding a Tommy Gun.

Considering that this entire quest is based on the Silver Shroud radio serial, becoming the Silver Shroud in Fallout 4 is a great way to handle the confrontation between Sinjin and the raiders. When you exit the elevator and speak with Sinjin, you will have multiple options to speak as the Shroud, playing into the grand fantasy Kent has helped you establish. If you pick all three Shroud dialogue options, the other raiders will run away when combat opens up.

While this takes care of Sinjin's allies, Sinjin will immediately try to kill Kent when the conversation ends. Therefore, you must act fast if you want to continue your roleplay. As you leave the elevator, get to a vantage point before the conversation starts with a bit of Jet or Buffjet. Then, when Sinjin is about to kill Kent, take more Jet, open VATS, and blow Sinjin's head off.

Best Way To Save Kent

While intimidating Sinjin's raiders with the right perk or words can be fun, the easiest way to save Kent's life involves having an extremely strong Charisma build. When you're speaking with Sinjin, you can say "Kill me first", convincing Sinjin to focus his attention on you rather than on Kent. This trick won't work if you don't have good enough Charisma, but if you do, Kent should stay safe while you handle Sinjin and the three raiders.

If Kent survives the attempt on his life, he can help you improve the Silver Shroud armor, making it one of the best pieces of armor in the entire game. The full outfit offers +1 Perception and +1 Agility. You'll get a 15% Damage Reduction when you fight ghouls or humans. Considering how many of your enemies are ghouls and humans in Fallout 4, you'll want to save Kent Connolly.
