Facebook's Messenger app is a valuable way to stay connected to friends, acquaintances and even business s alike, but when left untended, a person's inbox can get inundated with junk. Although Facebook has recently improved its platform with new tools, there is still no clear-cut way of deleting or unfriending someone on its messaging app. Blocking a on Messenger is the obvious and quickest choice, but it's also considered an extreme and somewhat permanent move.

Currently, there is no straightforward way to take someone off a 's Messenger s list outright. Unlike Facebook's main platform, there is no 'unfriend' button available on Messenger once a is permitted to communicate. Once a person is added, they can see when a is online. Muting a chat thread lets a person hit pause on conversations in the app without removing a conversation from the inbox or marking it as read. To mute a Messenger conversation, long-press on a thread, then tap 'Mute.' Choose to mute message notifications, call notifications or both. A time limit for the muting can also be set.
