Xiaomi has been making tablets for nearly a decade, but in all those years, not a single model has launched under its Redmi brand; that is about to change with the Redmi Pad. After taking a break for a few years, Xiaomi revived its tablet line in 2021 with new models like the Xiaomi Pad 5 and Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro, but it didn't stop there.

A few months ago, it announced the Xiaomi Book S 12.4, its first Windows 2-in-1 detachable. The 12.4-inch tablet is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 chipset, has stylus , runs Windows 11 S, and boasts up to 13 hours of battery life. While not sold in the U.S., consumers can purchase the Windows tablet in Europe for €699.

The Redmi Pad will be the first tablet launched under the Redmi brand. Unlike the Xiaomi Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro, the tablet's specifications, posted by SnoopyTech (90Hz refresh rate. The leaked specs also include renders, and they show the display will be surrounded by uniform bezels, but they are not the slimmest. On the back is a large rectangular camera island that houses a single 8MP camera. The Redmi Pad will have a metal unibody, and under the hood will be MediaTek's Helio G99 processor. The 6nm chipset has two Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The RAM and storage aren't stated, but multiple configurations should be available. Thankfully, there is a MicroSD card slot if there's the need to add more storage.

The Redmi Pad will have an 8MP ultrawide angle camera with a 105-degree field of view as its front-facing camera. The camera is centered, making it ideal for video calls in landscape mode. In addition, the spec sheet reveals it will have a "FocusFrame technology" feature that will automatically adjust the frame depending on the number of people in focus. There will be an 8000mAh battery powering the device, and while it only s 18W charging over USB-C, Redmi will ship it with a 22.5W power adapter.

The tablet will have Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi, but there is no mention of an LTE variant. It will also have quad speakers with Dolby Atmos, making it great for watching videos. However, it appears it won't have a headphone jack just like the Xiaomi Pad 5 series. The Redmi Pad will ship with MIUI 13 for Pad based on Android 12 and not Android 13. When it launches, it will be available in Graphite Gray, Lunar Silver, and Mint Green. The Redmi Pad is expected to be announced in the Xiaomi 12T series on Oct. 4.
