Sometimes unexpectedly scary, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time features a unique cast of enemies and boss battles. But despite the game being considered family-friendly and for all ages, there are moments in Ocarina of Time that could easily be classed as major challenges. Some of the boss battles are notoriously easy, whereas others present much more of a challenge than might be expected.
Surprisingly some of the main bosses in the game don't actually match up to one of its own mini-bosses who is both much more challenging and scarier. In fact, given the nature of the minibosses' location, fans might have missed several creepy details in Ocarina Of Time’s best mini-boss fight. Regardless, there are plenty of foes across the game, with some being much better to face than others.
Dark Link Is The Scariest Miniboss
Ocarina of Time also provides one of the most iconic minibosses in the series, which is Dark Link. Link comes across this frightening mini-boss in the Water Temple after entering a misty pond-like area. If players pay close attention, they will notice that Dark Link is actually a reflection of Link in the water that becomes sentient, implying that the creature is an aspect of the hero. Surprisingly despite not being one of the main bosses, the battle against Dark Link is exceptionally challenging.
#9 - Queen Gohma Is The Easiest Boss In Ocarina Of Time
Queen Gohma is the first boss fight that Link encounters in Ocarina of Time, and she is also the easiest one to defeat. Payers only need to stun her by shooting her eye when it turns red and then immediately attack with Link’s melee weapon. Although Queen Gohma is not the most difficult video game boss on N64, she manages to create one of the most iconic entrances in the game by forcing players to look up and find her crawling on the ceiling.
#8 - Ocarina Of Time - King Dodongo Is Not A Challenging Enemy
King Dodongo is another easy boss battle in Ocarina of Time, but he can provide more challenges than Queen Gohma. The creature can be defeated by throwing bombs into his open mouth and repeatedly attacking when he is stunned. The only move players need to be wary of is the rolling attack, which can be blocked using a shield.
#7 - Morpha Is The Best Part Of The Water Temple In Ocarina Of Time
Morpha is an amoebic creature that can manipulate the water in the pool, and even though the monster may seem intimidating at first, the boss fight is quite easy. Players can simply stand in the corner of the room and uses the hook shot to pull the nucleus and attack it. Morpha is perhaps the best part of the area since Ocarina of Time’s Water Temple is the most hated dungeon in the series.
On top of the cumbersome puzzles, players need to deal with vicious enemies while traversing through a series of water levels. Thankfully, the final boss of the Water Temple is not as headache-inducing as the rest of the area.
#6 - Ocarina Of Time - Volvagia Has A Hidden Sad Story
Volvagia is the boss of the Fire Temple that likes to devour Gorons while they are still alive in Ocarina of Time. The boss fight is basically a fantasy Whack-A-Mole game where players can use Megaton Hammer to stun the dragon when he pokes his head out. Although Volvagia is only one boss among many in the game, the dragon has a bigger role in the Ocarina of Time manga, which tells the tragic story between Link and the Fire Temple boss. Link actually purchases baby Volvagia in Castle Town, and the two become best friends. Unfortunately though, when Link travels through time, Volvagia gets corrupted by Ganon, which forces the Hylian to kill the dragon.
#5 - Barinade Offers A Decent Challenge In Ocarina Of Time
Barinade is the third boss that young Link has to face in Ocarina of Time, and it is located inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly. Unlike Queen Gohma and King Dodongo, the creature actually poses a threat to the hero due to its hard-to-avoid attacks. After Link cuts all tentacles that attach the creature to the ceiling, Barinade will begin chasing players with a spinning attack. Players can stun the boss by throwing the Boomerang at its main body.
#4 - Ocarina Of Time - Phantom Ganon Is A Fun And Unique Boss Fight
Phantom Ganon is the fourth boss in Ocarina of Time and can be found at the end of the Forest Temple. Although he is not the most powerful version of Ganon in the Zelda series, the boss offers a bit of a challenge for adult Link. Players need to keep an eye on the paintings in the arena and hit Phantom Ganon when he emerges. After hitting the boss three times, Phantom Ganon will shoot electric balls at Link, allowing players to train for the final battle against Ganondorf.
#3 - Bongo Bongo Is The Creepiest Boss In Ocarina Of Time
Bongo Bongo is the perfect boss fight for the Shadow Temple, which is filled with nightmarish monsters. The creature was sealed away by Impa in the Well of Three Features, but unfortunately, it manages to break free and set fire to Kakariko Village. Similar to other Giant Hand boss fight in the Zelda series, players need to attack the hands and shoot Bongo Bongo’s eye to stun the creature. Bongo Bongo becomes one of the most memorable boss battles in Ocarina of Time thanks to the eerie soundtrack, the dark boss arena, and the monster’s creepy character design.
#2 - Ocarina Of Time - Twinrova Provides A Fun Challenge
Twinrova can be found in the Spirit Temple in Ocarina of Time, and the best way to beat this boss is by using the mirror shield to reflect their attacks. Although the boss’ move set may seem simple, Twinrova provides a fun and engaging battle with a rewarding gameplay loop. The fight also has a great narrative weight since Link is fighting against Ganondorf’s surrogate mothers, who fully their son’s ambition to take over Hyrule.
#1 - Ganondorf Is The Best Boss In Ocarina Of Time
Ocarina of Time’s Ganondorf is often considered one of the best bosses in The Legend of Zelda series, and he is also the hardest enemy that Link has to face in the game. Similar to Twinrova, the final battle is divided into two phases: the Great King of Evil Ganondorf and Ganon. Players must use all experience and various tools in Link’s arsenal in order to defeat the incarnation of Demise. This final boss is the perfect climax for Link’s journey, and it also encapsulates the core of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is the battle between good and evil.
