Emperor Palpatine turned the Jedi's clone army against them and ensured no one could stand against the newly formed Galactic Empire. This moment marks the turning point in the franchise, as the Jedi are all but wiped out from existence and the Sith take over the galaxy.

Much of the fault for the Jedi Purge falls upon the shoulders of the Jedi High Council at the time, whose myopic vision led to their own downfall. It was also caused by betrayal from within, as Palpatine had gained a voice on the council through political and personal manipulation. Not all of these characters are major players in the Star Wars movies and TV shows, but viewers seeking intimate knowledge of the franchise should know each ranking member of the council at the time of Order 66 and what happened to them.

Anakin Skywalker

Anakin Skywalker is perhaps the most infamous member of the Jedi High Council ever, and the final member to ever have the honor of being inducted into the prestigious group. Unlike every other Jedi appointed to the council, Skywalker was not granted the rank of Master, outraging the young Jedi, who felt he had been slighted after being personally appointed by Chancellor Palpatine.

As told in Revenge of the Sith, Anakin's anger and hurt over being overlooked for the rank of Master, mixed with his fear over losing his wife Pe, led him to betray the Jedi only days after his appointment to the High Council. Taking on the title of Darth Vader, Anakin personally killed his fellow council while wiping out the Jedi Order.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi was appointed to the Jedi Council during the Clone Wars after a fellow council member, Depa Billaba, fell into a coma. Kenobi would go on to serve on the Council for the remainder of the war, being called upon by its for various special missions.

As fans know, Obi-Wan endured great hardships during his lifetime, but perhaps none greater than the betrayal of his apprentice and friend, Anakin, who brought about the very fall of the Jedi Order. While Kenobi was one of the few Jedi Masters to escape the Purge with his life, he was forced into exile on the desert planet Tatooine for almost twenty years. He would eventually die aboard the Death Star after confronting his one-time Padawan, who had become the villainous Darth Vader.

Shaak Ti

Shaak Ti was a Togruta Jedi who served on the council and oversaw the creation and training of the Clone Army on Kamino. Little is ever seen of Shaak Ti, though the Master Jedi's exploits in training the clone army could make for an intriguing Star Wars animated spinoff.

While Master Ti is confirmed not to have survived the events of Revenge of the Sith, the method of her death has shifted throughout Star Wars canon. Originally, she was murdered by General Grievous aboard his ship as Anakin and Obi-Wan watched in horror, though this scene was originally deleted. Outside Star Wars media contends that Shaak Ti was killed during Vader's attack on the Jedi Temple, where she chose not to fight the Sith Lord, but rather to die with dignity.

Stass Allie

Stass Allie was a short-lived member of the Jedi Council who took the seat of her cousin Adi Gallia, who was murdered by Savage Oppress in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 5, episode 1 "Revival." Her close resemblance to her cousin and predecessor has often confused this character's identity.

Allie was killed on a mission to the planet Saleucami when Chancellor Palpatine gave the order to all clone commanders to execute their Jedi generals. While riding on speeder bikes over the barren terrain of Saleucami, the clones, led by Commander Neyo, fell back behind Allie and fired on her, sending her crashing into a nearby rock formation and ending her life.

Agen Kolar

Agen Kolar is a Jedi Master briefly featured in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The Zabrak Jedi was appointed to the High Council sometime during the Clone Wars as a replacement for Eeth Koth, who had been forced out of the Jedi Order entirely.

Kolar was among the Jedi Masters gathered by Mace Windu to confront and arrest Palpatine after learning that he was indeed the Sith Lord they were looking for. He is the first opponent to be killed by Palpatine, who runs him through with his lightsaber before the council member has a chance to parry the blow.

Depa Billaba

Depa Ballaba was a powerful member of the Jedi Council who had once been the Padawan learner of Master Mace Windu himself. Billaba would go on to train the Jedi Caleb Dume, who would feature heavily in the animated series Star Wars Rebels under the name Kanan Jarrus.

Ballaba was on a mission to the planet Kaller with her Padawan when Order 66 was doled out to every clone commander in the Republic Army. When her troops fired upon her and Dume, Billaba heroically held off their attack, giving Dume a chance to escape. While she held out for some time, the Jedi Master was eventually killed by her own troops.

Coleman Kcaj

Coleman Kcaj is a Jedi Master who makes his only live-action appearance in Revenge of the Sith, having become a member of the Jedi Council at some point during the Clone Wars. The character never speaks or takes any action throughout the franchise, and little is known about his origin other than the fact that he hails from the planet Skustell.

Despite having very little to do throughout the franchise, Coleman Kacj is one of the few of the Jedi Council at the time of the Great Purge to escape with his life. Though his escape is never depicted in any Star Wars media, his name is included in the Inquisitors' list of escaped Jedi in the 2017 Darth Vader comic series.

Saesee Tiin

Master Saesee Tiin was an Iktotchi member of the High Jedi Council during the Clone Wars, who appeared in all three prequel films as well as several episodes of The Clone Wars. Tiin was lauded among the other Jedi for his piloting skills and command over the Force, especially when it came to his telepathic abilities.

Tiin was one of the three Jedi Masters gathered by Mace Windu to arrest Chancellor Palpatine in his office at the end of the Clone Wars. However, the Jedi was quickly dispatched by Palpatine, who sliced through Saesee Tiin only moments after running his fellow council member, Agen Kolar, through with his lightsaber.

Oppo Rancisis

Oppo Rancisis was an often-silent but very wise Jedi Master who served on the High Council for over two hundred years. Much like his master, Yaddle, Rancisis had a lifespan far longer than most other species in the galaxy, allowing him to live through both the High Republic Era and the Clone Wars.

Rancisis's last known location before the execution of Order 66 was on the planet Saleucami, where he led a siege alongside the maverick Jedi Quinlan Vos. The character is among those listed by the Inquisitors to have escaped the initial Purge, and his whereabouts thereafter remain unknown. However, given his proximity to Vos, who was recently alluded to in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, at the time of Order 66, the Jedi Master could very well make another appearance.

Kit Fisto

Kit Fisto was a Nautolan member of the High Jedi Council during the Clone Wars. The character, who was lauded for his skill with a lightsaber, was involved in several key battles during the war, many of which made for some of the best episodes of The Clone Wars.

Master Fisto was among the Jedi gathered by Mace Windu to arrest Chancellor Palpatine following the revelation that he was a Sith Lord. Fisto lasted longer than fellow Masters Tiin and Kolar, crossing blades several times with Palpatine before being struck down by the far more powerful Force-wielder. However, a continuity error in Revenge of the Sith wherein Fisto's body mysteriously disappears has led some fans to wonder if the Jedi Master is dead after all.
