One of the most successful and critically acclaimed video game franchises ever, Borderlands has been an acclaimed seventh and eighth-gen looter-shooter series. The art style alone is reason enough for gamers to keep coming back to the series after over a decade's worth of sequels and spin-offs. Despite the iconic visuals, the gameplay is also fantastic and only adds to the amazing story and world-building the games have established.
Despite the success of the launch versions of the games, tons of able content has been released over the years, as well. Some of these add hours upon hours of amazing gameplay to the franchise, whereas others have unfortunately fallen a little short.
The Zombie Island Of Dr. Ned
The first major DLC to be released for the game is by no means bad, but it isn't quite up to the quality of its successors. Adding more to the dark and grittiness of the first game, the DLC sees players tasked with protecting the remaining survivors of Jakobs Cove alive as a zombie outbreak caused by Dr.Ned wrecks havoc in the area. The DLC is a decent size adding multiple missions and enemies to the game and isn't a chore to complete, but when the competition is this tough, it's not quite up to the quality of some of the others.
Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot
Complete with the Mad Max reference that players have come to expect from the game, Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot is a little unique amongst the Borderland DLCs. Rather than add numerous missions and plotlines, the DLC simply adds multiple arenas in which players can compete in a new game mode against various enemies in a gladiator-type fashion.
By no means a waste of time to play, those more interested in the game's plotlines might want to steer clear of this DLC, but the gameplay itself is still enjoyable enough.
Directors' Cut
Nearly the opposite of Underdome Riot, the Director's Cut adds a ton of new story elements and new cut scenes to Borderlands 3. The most recent DLC from the franchise had mixed reviews, as many players reported that it was quite short, only requiring a few hours of gameplay to complete in its entirety. However, hardcore fans of the game should enjoy the new story elements it adds which help enrich an already dense and colorful plot for the game.
Moxxi's Heist Of The Handsome Jackpot
Adding a ton of new loot and a new location, Moxxi's Heist offers some awesome gameplay in one of the game's coolest locations. With a plan to rob Handsome Jack's fortune, things quickly go awry for Moxxi and the Vault Hunters as they run into an army of out-of-control Loader Bots. With the plan now thrown out the window, players must navigate the death trap of a casino in order to claim their fortune.

Claptrap's New Robot Revolution
One of the DLCs that helped take the first Borderlands game to another level still holds up as one of the better add-ons for the game. Doubling down on the game's unique sense of humor and overall off-beat style, the New Robot Revolution adds a tone of fun new stuff for players to mess around with. The add-on also adds one of the funniest antagonists in the game as players attempt to take down some rather entertaining enemies.
Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty
Introducing one of the coolest characters in the Borderlands universe, Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate's Booty is one of the more interesting DLCs for Borderlands 2. Treasure hunts, a mysterious com, and a backstabbing-hook-handed pirate all add to the unique feel of the DLC. The add-on also introduces tons of new locations and over a dozen missions to the game, allowing for hours of gameplay to go along with the launch version of the game.
Guns, Love, And Tentacles
Another DLC from the most recent iteration of the game, Guns, Love, and Tentacles provides players with a fun story about a wedding gone totally wrong. Players must help save the wedding from a cult that worships a giant dead monster above the wedding venue. With aesthetics that are clearly influenced by the stories of H.P. Lovecraft, this is one of the most visually stunning DLCs in the franchise so far.
The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
The 3rd DLC for the first Borderlands game was one that helped define the franchise going forward. Doubling down on the silly dialogue, the entire storyline will have players chuckling to themselves as they tried to take down Crawmerax the Invincible, a giant worm-crab hybrid creature.
Crawmerax is also the first-raid boss in the game, an element that developers would continue to incorporate into later installments of the series.
Bounty of Blood
With a setting, plot, and aesthetic that mimics classic western movies, Bounty of Blood is another expansion that excels in the story and world-building department just as much as the actual gameplay added.
The story follows as the Vault Hunter must help to defend the small town of Vestige from a group of outlaws that want to take the old technology leftover from a corporation that used to conduct experiments on the planet. The DLC also adds the Jetbeast vehicle, adding even more hours of fun to the Old West-style missions in the add-on.
Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt
Danger! Excitement! Mustaches! The third campaign DLC for Borderlands 2 wastes no time letting players know exactly what it is about. With wacky new characters and an often creepy jungle setting, the DLC is one of the most memorable in the game.
Players must track down and kill exotic creatures in the new landscape with the assistance of the eccentric Sir Hammerlock. With plenty of new enemies to take down, as well as the addition of a new vehicle, the Big Game Hunt is one of the most popular amongst fans of the series for good reason.
