Barry Keoghan its to constantly reaching out to his castmates for any updates on Eternals 2. Directed by Chloé Zhao, the original Eternals film introduced a brand new superhero team to the MCU. Keoghan plays the Druig, who is best known for his ability to control minds. While the film also featured a couple of deaths among the titular heroes, he is one of the survivors, thus making his MCU return likely.

Despite that, Marvel Studios has yet to make an official announcement for Eternals 2. Typically, standalone MCU films come in a trilogy, except for a few such as Thor who recently got a fourth solo film in Thor: Love and Thunder. Knowing this well, Keoghan is understandably eager to know when the team can come back to the big screen and has opened up about his surprise at the lack of news. Though they can appear in other MCU projects on the docket, there's still an expectation that their collective arcs will continue via Eternals 2 whenever the sequel gets released.

Speaking with UPROXX, Keoghan confesses to constantly texting some of his other Eternals co-stars for any updates. He particularly cites Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo in the film, because of one major reason. Read Keoghan's full quote below:

Kumail is always the one I’m texting. I’m like, “Yo, have you heard anything on Eternals 2?” Kumail knows everything. You know what I mean? He loves comic books. The comic world...

Well, I’m always texting him like about San Diego Comic-Con. I’m like, “Hey, are we going to San Diego for Eternals?” but I’d love to see where it goes. I really would.

Why Hasn't Marvel Announced Eternals 2?

The Eternals team in the MCU

Marvel Studios has had two chances to officially announce Eternals 2 at San Diego Comic-Con and D23 Expo this year, but Kevin Feige and his team have been mum on the matter. In fact, there's barely any conversation about it in junkets and interviews. It's possible that the franchise is just prioritizing its projects first instead of publicizing its plans for Eternals 2, which may not release until the end of the burgeoning Multiverse Saga. For what it's worth, Marvel Studios hasn't made any official statement regarding likely sequels Shang-Chi 2 or Doctor Strange 3, so until there's an official brief that the Eternals sequel is not happening, it shouldn't be a cause for concern.

It's curious what the rest of Keoghan's cast mates think about the lack of updates regarding Eternals 2. He didn't share Nanjiani's reply when he asked him about any news — if Nanjiani had a reply at all. As the MCU continues to grow, delayed sequels are one of the downsides of the franchise's rapid expansion. Marvel Studios has maintained a small but tight-knit managerial team headed by Feige, and they cannot understandably oversee all these projects, so they have to prioritize. In any case, Keoghan's eagerness can only be a good thing that means he will be ready once they're finally called to do Eternals 2.
