Warning: This article contains spoilers for Eternals
After months of speculation, audiences finally have a definitive answer to whether Hary Styles is in the Eternals movie's cast.
The film itself chronicles the conflict between a group of immortal superheroes, living on earth in secret, and their enemies, known as the Deviants. While the Eternals possess incredible powers, such as flight and superhuman strength, they have historically been forbidden from interfering in human affairs by their masters, the Celestials. This explains why, despite their abilities, they have traditionally stood aside during some of the darkest periods in humanity's history – such as Thanos' snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.
The central Eternals team consists of 10 main players, of which Styles isn't one. However, Harry Styles is in the Eternals movie, appearing in the mid-credits scene as Starfox, aka Eros. Styles' appearance, which was spoiled after the movie's premiere, is a major step forward for his acting career, and presumably sets up much bigger things to come for him in the MCU. Similarly, Marvel landing Styles is something of a coup, which should open up Eternals to the singer's own rabid fanbase.
In the original comic book source material, Starfox is depicted as a serial womanizer who regularly engages in relationships with both humans and other alien races. This explains his Eros pseudonym (which itself has ties to the ancient Greek god of ionate love). Perhaps most interesting, however, is Starfox's relationship with the so-called Mad Titan, Thanos. Despite appearing almost human, Starfox is actually Thanos' brother, having been raised alongside the Avengers' nemesis on the planet Titan. This connection could have serious implications, considering Thanos' status as the over-arching supervillain throughout the first three Phases of the MCU. Whether Harry Styles Eternals character represents a return to the Infinity Stones arc remains to be seen, but the historical connection between the two characters is undeniably intriguing for the future of the franchise.
Despite his character's storied place in relation to other iconic MCU characters, the role of Harry Styles in the Eternals movie is actually extremely limited. Starfox only appears in a short post-credits scene, meaning that he has little to do with the film's central narrative. However, despite this limited involvement, his appearance does suggest that Harry Styles will play more of a role in the MCU moving forward. While his Eternals screen time may disappoint some viewers, his presence alone is enough to suggest that audiences will see more of him in movies to come.
