The only way to escape the ghost is by completing or leaving the level. The player will need to b-line for the exit as fast as possible. It won't follow the player to the next level. Continue to make your way deeper into the level to avoid being killed by the ghost. Currently, there is no method to actually kill the ghost that pursues you. Since the game is very community-driven, maybe if the players request for a method to kill the ghost, it can be released in a later patch. For now, the only way to deal with a ghost is by running away as fast as possible.
Spelunky 2 is the textbook definition of what a solid sequel of a video game should do. It should not forget what made the game popular but rather continue to build on its existing foundation with new content and stories to explore. This game will likely last a long time as well, especially with the ability to explore these dungeons with friends. This is definitely a great time for those looking for a cheap but fun adventure underground.
