Epic Games has unveiled its next giveaway and it's a surprising title that will undoubtedly appeal to fans of retro experiences. While the Epic Games Store is known for dishing out free copies of some fantastic AAA titles as well as smaller indie hits, it rarely delves into its well of products to give s a bundle of all-time classics. The giveaway is not only an excellent collection in its own right but it's also a fantastic historical preservation of a franchise that had a resounding impact on the entire industry.

Over on the Epic Games Store, the company revealed that the free game for the week of Nov 14 to Nov 21 is Castlevania Anniversary Collection. The bundle comprises eight separate games from various eras of the franchise, including Castlevania, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevania: The Adventure, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, Castlevania Bloodlines, and even Kid Dracula. It also includes History of Castlevania - Book of the Crescent Moon, an eBook dedicated to the series' legacy that features insight from the developers and artists behind the games.

Castlevania Is Still Worth Your Time

Anniversary Collection Is The Best Way To Play Them

Known for their punishing difficulty, the Anniversary Collection makes very few changes to the games beyond simply optimizing them for modern hardware.

While older titles like the original Castlevania and its sequel can be difficult to enjoy nowadays, they're still a good amount of fun. Players who appreciate the preservation of culture and history will see the value in the Anniversary Collection not least of all because of how interesting it can be to witness the franchise's growth over several installments. Given that it's a free giveaway, Epic Games Store s have no excuse not to check it out.

Castlevania Is A Fantastic Series

If Only Konami Knew That

Castlevania's Soleil Belmont

I love the old-school Castlevania games so I'm excited that so many younger players can have the opportunity to try them out thanks to Epic Games. The hopeful part of me wants to believe that with enough enthusiasm Konami will greenlight a new mainline entry in the series, but I also know that's incredibly unlikely. Still, with the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, maybe the publisher will realize that players still have an itch for its most beloved franchises.
